Forum merger: a new unified space for the Gladys community 🌐

Hello everyone! :waving_hand:

For several years, we had two separate forums:

  • a French forum for French-speaking users
  • an international forum in English

Thanks to the new AI features integrated into Discourse, this separation is no longer necessary: messages can now be automatically translated, and each member sees posts in the language they understand.

From now on, the single forum for the whole community will be this forum!

If you created your account in French, you will continue to see posts in French, whether they are posted in French or in English.

On the Discourse side, I started the translation of all posts several days ago using GPT-5 mini. Given the number of posts (35k in total), this will take a few more days and will cost a good hundred dollars in OpenAI credits :stuck_out_tongue:

Please warmly welcome the new members who will join us in this community, and continue to post in your native language, posts will in any case be automatically translated!

Excellent news and welcome back to our English-speaking friends! :france:

But if we write in English and French, what will you see? :united_kingdom:

Well, that was in English just before, I haven’t yet dared to put French and English in the same sentence  :pirate_flag:

Quick update on this: I have officially taken the international forum offline, and I posted a message to inform users that the new unified forum is now here

Great change!

However, I just came across a message that has a somewhat short translation and doesn’t convey the full information given in the original version. Have you seen any others? We may need to keep an eye on it.

Whoa, this is the first time I’ve seen that — the AI being lazy again

I’ll see if I can regenerate some posts specifically

Just a tip for anyone having the same problem as me. You have to set interface language to English to see the translations. In my case, Dutch, didn’t work.

Thanks for the reply @NoiZe!

And a quick question, if I reply to you in French, do you receive an email notification with my message in French or in English?

The email was in French.

Strangely enough my message above is also in French. The rest is in English. If I go to settings and back, it’s in English. If I refresh it’s in French again. It’s still a bit wobbly, but also an improvement for me as a very, very little French speaking person!

Also when visiting another part of the forum.

Here are some screenshots. My reply to the Opera topic was all in English. Weird.

Ok thanks for your feedback; apparently there’s a forum update — I’ll install it to see if it fixes these issues!

Forum updated!

Is it better now @NoiZe?

Seems to work!

Did you receive the email in English?

Because on my end, I received your reply in English, even though I should have received it in French

No, still in French.

Good news, yesterday’s forum update added link rel="alternate" links to tell search engines that translated versions of each post exist.

In theory, all posts from this forum should start appearing in Google in English :fire:

I hope that will bring us international traffic!
