I had fun making a small proof of concept to allow Gladys to speak on any screen as long as the Gladys dashboard is running, for example on a Gladys tablet open in the living room
What do you think? Is this a feature you would use?
Good idea if there’s the option to choose which screens the sound is played on! On Sunday morning in the bedroom that could earn you a serious telling-off from your wife!!
The problem is that I voted for features that I’ve requested for quite some time and that seem to have been forgotten, and which I don’t want to give up on!
Yes, the TTS part is the same as the one currently in production for speaking on a Sonos, Google or Apple speaker.
I should clarify that this goes through Gladys Plus because for now I haven’t found a quality TTS system that works locally, but if one day that exists, I would be very happy to offer it locally, for even faster response times and a purely local operation!
Hi everyone, this isn’t exactly what’s being asked here, but in version 4.77 I developed a « Voice Assistant » section directly in the dashboard, which allows you to chat with your Gladys instance and use the AI agent!
For the « Gladys vocal notification to the tablet » part: I wonder if it would really be useful in practice, because the tablet isn’t always unlocked or on the Gladys view. So, the notification would be lost most of the time, right?
Since v4.77, the « Voice Assistant » widget on the dashboard allows you to interact with Gladys vocally on a tablet or smartphone, which, in my opinion, covers the main need expressed here.
As for incoming voice notifications to a screen, I don’t plan to develop them: browsers block audio playback without user interaction, and a locked or sleeping tablet simply misses the notification. For reliable announcements, Sonos, Google Cast, and AirPlay integrations remain the best solution.
Unless there are objections with a use case the widget doesn’t cover, I’ll close this topic in a week to free up your votes. Thanks to everyone for your contributions!
