Gladys Assistant 5 is out! 🚀

Hello everyone!

This is a release I’ve been eagerly awaiting. Today, I’m very happy to announce Gladys Assistant 5 :tada:

The move to v5 marks a new milestone for the project. It’s a strong signal: v4 is behind us, and Gladys is accelerating more than ever on major topics.

With external integrations, the project is quickly catching up in terms of the number of integrations. And with this new version, Gladys also offers a completely redesigned, modern interface, in line with 2026 standards, while remaining simple and primarily designed for tablets and mobile devices.

v5 and v4 are fully backward compatible, your instances will update automatically as usual. You can force the update in Gladys settings.

Personally, I’m blown away.

I’ve been using Home Assistant for a year because there was a large number of supported devices and the ability to create various dashboards.

I had looked at Gladys Assistant because I liked the philosophy, but there were too many gaps for me to migrate from HA to GA.

In just one or two months, I’ve seen Gladys Assistant evolve at lightning speed and become a real alternative thanks to external integrations. The new dashboards in V5 further bridge the gap between the two solutions (HA and GA).

Even though I haven’t really looked at the possibilities offered by V5 yet, in just 5 minutes I got a much prettier welcome (and that, without doing anything except updating to V5).

I haven’t yet managed to integrate everything I have in GA under GA, but honestly, I’m not far off.

Two months ago, I said that Gladys didn’t allow me to find everything I had in HA, but now there isn’t much of a gap (with a GA administration that is much simpler, organized, and clear).

HA is still much more powerful, certainly, but in use, Gladys is much easier to get started with (in HA, I often had to deal with YAML, whereas in Gladys, I’ve configured everything through the interface).

I’m not going to abandon HA because I still have a lot of things that I haven’t found in GA (opensprinkler, support for my Samsung TVs, music assistant, etc.), but Gladys is no longer a solution I’m testing; it has become a solution I use (and that I will probably migrate from a Raspberry Pi to a mini PC).
The only question I have today is: do I keep my Nabu Casa subscription (for remote access) or do I replace it with Gladys Plus? A cruel dilemma because I now use both solutions.

I admit the slogan is really top :star_struck:
So, IA or PG?

I tested the demo site, what a joy!
I prefer the light mode but the dark one is nice too.
And as for the presentation of dashboards, sections, columns, it’s incredible the work.
I won’t even talk about the scenes because it’s become ultra understandable with a simple scroll.
In short, pure joy, and bravo @pierre-gilles for this magnificent release, and all the devs who tested and added their touch :raising_hands:

I remember the v3 that I saw (very quickly) and discovered Jeedom at the same time.
The v4 was better but lacked too much, especially with Z-Wave and the scenes that I didn’t fully understand. And finally, switching by buying Zigbee modules, I decided to push the v4 a bit more, which was already evolving very well.
And now this v5 that I’m going to push forward because the WAF is there :heart_eyes:

Oh man, I can’t wait to switch and set up a whole new and splendid interface :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

And now good luck @pierre-gilles for closing new feature requests and especially old ones, there will be some sorting and archiving tomorrow :rofl:

Happy to see that the approach we’ve taken over the past few months and the sustained pace of the project are starting to bear fruit!

The development pace is still very high right now, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you end up finding everything you use today in Gladys, with a simpler and more integrated experience :blush:

For Samsung TVs, I’ve seen several requests on the forum, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it arrives quickly in an external integration.

For OpenSprinkler, if they have an open API, I don’t see why it couldn’t become a Gladys external integration. It’s exactly the kind of use case we want to enable with this new architecture :slight_smile:

For music, you’re right, it’s a real issue. I think we need to collectively think about the best approach to launch it quickly. Once we know exactly what we want to build, it can be developed (very) quickly :wink:

I’m obviously not totally objective :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:, but Gladys Plus today directly funds all these developments. So if you want to help the project continue to move forward, a subscription gives a real boost to the project’s treasury, which I can then reinvest in more AI tokens and therefore even more development :joy:

It’s a virtuous circle: subscriptions accelerate development, which improves Gladys, which makes you even more eager to contribute to the project :raising_hands:

Remember to adapt your dashboards before sharing them: there are plenty of new widgets that look great, so take advantage of them to make your dashboards even more impressive :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

And above all, test the new sections! It’s a really big evolution: as it stands, your dashboards migrated from v4 only use one section for now, whereas there are many more possibilities now.

WOW! What an evolution, what dynamism, and all while staying firmly rooted in its original principles! It’s a delight to see this in-depth overhaul, which does the most good.

I take pleasure in seeing the solution evolve, even more so in recent weeks with external integrations :star_struck:

I’ve been wanting to participate for years without managing to find the time to do so. External integrations and LLM have changed everything. Already two integrations delivered, including one specific to Canada with Hydro-Québec integration for Gladys Assistant | Gladys Assistant :slight_smile:

improvement suggestion to be even closer to HA (but maybe I’m wrong and it’s already possible).

In GA, I can display devices and choose the possible action (ex: I display an airzone zone that allows me to turn on/off, I display an airzone zone that displays the temperature or I display an airzone zone that allows me to select the setpoint temperature). If I want to manage all 3, I have to display 3 widgets that each allow me to trigger an action.

In HA, I can select a device and configure a popup, which does not clutter the GA dashboard and, on this popup, I can display the 3 possible actions (it’s easier to show than to explain so I’ll attach a screenshot)

is it possible to do this in GA?

@filbou40, here’s what’s being developed on my side. But not in a popup, but it could be an option. What do you think, @pierre-gilles? It would be consistent with the lighting management popup after all!

Absolutely magnificent. Very promising version.

However, am I the only one who lost the content of the dashboards? I’m stuck on a configuration window that seems to force me to configure my dashboards. :thinking:

They are all there but apparently empty. No command if I choose the command to add my first widget except to delete the dashboard :sob:

Otherwise, I haven’t had time to comment, but you’re doing a great job. A user since almost the beginning, I’ve never seen Gladys upload so much with integrations coming in constantly… I can’t keep up :face_savoring_food: Thanks to everyone for all this work :+1::folded_hands:

I have this nice home screen on a new dashboard, but all the old ones are still there for me.

I had the same issue when I initially logged in via Gladys Plus after the switch to v5. Actually, it was because the Gladys Plus frontend was already on v5 while my local Gladys was still on v4. I logged into Gladys locally, forced the update, and then no more issues.

I had the same thing on the first startup, but after clearing the cache and refreshing the page, everything came back and it works perfectly.
