Gladys + and Alexa

Good evening, I intend to switch to Gladys+. The backup feature interests me a lot. Since I don’t know much, I’m regularly forced to reinstall everything to fix my mistakes. And of course Alexa integration helped me decide. I’d like to know if it’s possible to use Alexa’s voice alert feature with Gladys — to have it announce calendar events, the arrival of mail, or other Gladys actions.

Hi @elfedagger!

Great!

It’s not possible to use Alexa’s voice alert feature, you’re the first to request this feature

For now the Alexa integration only handles the « smart home » part of Alexa (device control)

If there’s demand for this feature, why not!

Should I make a request in Feature Requests to see if others are interested?

Exactly. That will allow other people to vote or add to it.

I saw that you subscribed to Gladys Plus @elfedagger, thank you for your support!

Indeed you can make a feature request, and then if other Gladys Plus users are interested, I’ll look into it.

Before getting started you should also potentially check whether Amazon allows that, because I don’t think the notification text is free in their API — it’s only predefined « types » of notifications.

I found this in their docs:

If this helps

With Node-RED you can do things

Interesting! I’m having trouble understanding what they’re not using it against

Yes, that’s more or less what I wanted to talk about: being able to send a sentence to Alexa so that she says it to announce a lamp being turned on or an upcoming calendar event or something else. There’s this that exists on Jeedom.

And this on Home Assistant.

Thank you for providing software usable by ordinary people. My level in programming or coding is limited to an introduction to BASIC on TO7 70 and MO5 Thomson when I was in primary school and that was in the 1980s. Lately on Raspberry I have been content to copy and paste without really understanding what I’m doing. Gladys is a godsend for me, no code. And with Gladys+ I get secure access and permanent storage for my installation, while financially helping its development. That works for me.

Thanks for the links, I’ll take a look!

Can you create a feature request for us so we can see if it’s a requested feature?

It’s nice to read, thank you for your feedback :folded_hands:
