Hi everyone!
The classic of home automation: the movie starts, the lights dim automatically. Here’s Kodi in Gladys, the free media center (LibreELEC, OSMC, CoreELEC, Kodi on PC, Android TV, or Shield). Everything runs locally, in real time.
What it does
- One device per Kodi (up to 3): playback status, current title (« Film (2024) », « Series S01E02 – Title », « Artist – Song »), media type, progress, remaining time, volume, and the playback, pause, stop, previous, next, mute buttons.
- A Kodi widget with the cover, title, end time, and buttons.
- Four triggers: playback started, paused, resumed, and stopped, filterable by Kodi and by media type (movie, episode, music…).
- Seven scene actions: control playback, adjust volume, mute, display a notification on Kodi, play a media by its path or URL, update the library, and read the Kodi status.
- Automatic discovery on the network.
The cool part
A movie starts → living room lights at 10%, pause → 50%, end → 100%
Someone rings the doorbell → notification on the screen and movie paused
11:30 PM, if Kodi is stopped → the TV outlet is cut off
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum.
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer update. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with the address GitHub - guim31/gladys-kodi: Kodi media center for Gladys Assistant: now playing, playback control and scene triggers · GitHub
- In Kodi: Settings → Services → Control, enable « Allow remote control via HTTP » and « … from apps on other systems ».
- In Gladys: Search for Kodi on the network, then add the device in the Discovery tab.
Honest small reservations: the integration does not turn Kodi on or off, and the covers only come from the library. It has been tested against real Kodi 20 and 21 in containers (real video and music playback, playlists, wrong password, Kodi turned off then back on), but not yet on a box or a Pi.
