Hi everyone!
Last in the morning series, and we’re adding to the TV family: here’s Philips TV, for Philips Android TV and Google TV (since 2016) and the Saphi models, including Ambilight. It’s 2.3% of Home Assistant installations, and everything runs locally, via Philips’ JointSpace API.
What it does
- One device per TV (up to 3): power on/off (with Wake-on-LAN), volume in slider and + / −, mute, source (TV, HDMI 1 to 4), foreground application and app launch, channel + / −, and what’s on screen.
- The Ambilight: on/off, style (from the TV menus: follow video, follow audio…), fixed color, and Ambilight + Hue.
- Four widgets: remote control, Ambilight, four customizable buttons, and four shortcuts to your favorite apps or sources.
- A trigger « application, channel or source changed », with the app name and the origin of the change (Gladys or the remote control).
- Scene actions: open an application, choose a source, set the Ambilight, send a key.
The cool part
Movie night → Netflix opens, Ambilight in « Follow video », dimmed lights
Netflix opens → the shutters close
Good night → Amber Ambilight, then the TV turns off a few minutes later
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum.
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with the address GitHub - guim31/gladys-philips-tv: Philips Android TVs for Gladys Assistant: power, volume, sources, apps and Ambilight, on the local network · GitHub
- Turn on the TV, click on « Search for TVs » (or enter its address), then save.
- For an Android TV: « Show a pairing code on the TV », then « Confirm the pairing code » with the displayed code.
- Add the device from the Discovery tab.
Honest caveats: no pre-2016 models, sources and apps are only controllable on Android, the TV doesn’t say which HDMI input is on screen, and Wake-on-LAN doesn’t go through a router. I developed it without a TV: it has been tested against real TV responses (taken from Home Assistant’s library) and two fake TVs in containers, pairing included. If you have a Philips, your feedback would be very helpful.
