External integration - QNAP

cover-qnap

Hi everyone!

Synology, Unraid, UGREEN… and QNAP was missing from the list. Yet, it’s the NAS of many of you, and some even run Gladys on it (@ruegerth, I’m thinking of you ^^). This integration monitors the NAS locally, without cloud.

What it does

  • The NAS: online, processor, memory, processor and system temperatures, fan speed, network throughput per interface, uptime, firmware version, and update available.
  • One device per volume: used space, capacity, free space, status (ready, degraded, rebuilding), alert.
  • One device per disk: temperature, SMART status (Good / Warning / Error), alert.
  • The UPS connected to the NAS: battery, runtime, load, on battery, low battery.
  • Three triggers: Degraded volume, Disk alert, Firmware update available.
  • Two actions Restart / Shutdown the NAS, disabled by default (check in configuration).
  • A QNAP NAS widget.
  • In French, English, German, and Spanish.

The cool part

Degraded RAID → message to the whole house and a lamp that turns red
Power outage: NAS on battery → message; battery below 30% → NAS shuts down properly
Disk on warning → message with the model and temperature, to order the replacement

Installation

:warning: Gladys 5.1 minimum.

It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with GitHub - guim31/gladys-qnap: QNAP NAS monitoring (QTS / QuTS hero) for Gladys Assistant · GitHub

  1. On the NAS, create a dedicated account without two-factor authentication (the “System Monitoring” role is enough to read; an administrator is needed to restart, shut down, or see updates).
  2. In Gladys: NAS address, username, and password, then Test connection.
  3. Discovery tab: add the NAS, volumes, and disks.

Honest small reservations

  • No two-factor authentication, and one NAS per installation.
  • Nothing about applications, shared folders, snapshots, or virtual machines.
  • Developed without a QNAP NAS, but tested on the real responses of nine models (from the TS-110 to the TS-1677XU), under QTS 4. Behavior under QTS 5 and QuTS hero is to be confirmed: your feedback is welcome, and the repository contains a small read-only test script if you want to help.

Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with QNAP.

Well, of course, and I had to test it right away… It works perfectly. Here’s a picture of your dashboard on my Gladys:

It works perfectly, great graphical overview, the next widget for my Gladys is found.

Right next to it, my very own first external integration with geodata from your area :joy:

Greetings

Tom

Thanks Tom! The first real QNAP test, and it worked on the first try — that’s great ^^

And congratulations on your first integration, done manually no less! If I understand correctly, we now have upcoming departures around any point on the globe, without downloading anything.

This is very complementary to my GTFS integration, which only knows France but looks for disruptions: yours works everywhere, from Toulouse to Quebec! And the ability to have multiple widgets each with its own location is clever.

Two small GitHub tips for the future, no rush:

  • add the topic gladys-assistant-integration to your repository (gear icon next to “About”): it’s thanks to this that the indexer will make it appear in the Gladys store;
  • add a license file (click the « Add file » button → « Create new file » → name the file LICENSE, GitHub then suggests a template, MIT for example), so that others can use it and contribute.

Keep it up! :+1:
