Hello, I’m looking for feedback regarding adding NFC tags in my home that I would have to tap with my Android phone.
Ideally I’d like them to communicate via Zigbee.
Has anyone used them before
You can use any programmable NFC tag, like this model on Amazon, it works very well!
Regarding the Zigbee part, I think there may be some confusion:
NFC works by being read by your smartphone, not as a radio like Zigbee.
It’s your Android phone that reads the NFC tag, then triggers an action via an app installed on your phone.
For example, you can configure an HTTP or MQTT action to Gladys using apps like:
- Tasker (very powerful, but a bit more complex),
- NFC Tools (very simple for HTTP requests),
- or MacroDroid (very intuitive too).
So in the end, you tap with your smartphone, and it can turn on a light, trigger a Gladys scenario, etc. via HTTP/MQTT.
If you want it to be really Zigbee, you’d rather go for a Zigbee button (and not an NFC tag), but that’s a different way of working ![]()
Don’t hesitate if you need help setting all this up!
Hello, I must have gotten confused…
Here’s what I had in mind:
I get home, I hold my smartphone up to an NFC tag and:
- Actions are triggered in Gladys
- My smartphone switches from Vibrate mode to Sound mode; connects to Wi‑Fi…
That’s the idea
Indeed, in this kind of case, Tasker is really the ideal tool: it’s a true Swiss Army knife on Android for automations like this ![]()
Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions about setting it up!
Hi, there are easy-to-set-up routines in the latest versions of Android and iOS that include these functions.
I use it for sounds, vibration, and apps automatically as soon as my phone connects to Wi‑Fi, to my car’s Bluetooth, ..
Thanks for your replies, I’ll take a look at that! ![]()
