I will probably be moving soon to a rt2012 house, with air conditioning / RJ45 outlets everywhere / electric roller shutters…
In short, a change for me, I would like to know if Gladys can meet my needs.
I’m looking for information, I’m very attracted to an open-source system that respects my privacy, so I ended up here!
Here’s what I would like, you will tell me if it’s theoretically possible (without talking for the moment about hardware compatibility because I don’t have more precise information about my future home):
a system that can be manually controlled from a touch screen / tablet (turn lights on and off, adjust the temperature by room, open the shutters, etc…), like a web interface.
that the system manages predefined scenarios (like Wake up / Evening / Absence), I think we’re good on that.
that I don’t need to talk to my assistant, I’m fine with it talking to me but I don’t see myself talking to it for the moment
Knowing that I already have a few RPi so I’ll manage that, but I’m a TOTAL beginner on the hardware part dedicated to home automation.
Gladys can meet your needs. Available via web interface and Android app, it works great with a tablet.
Version 3 has many modules, you’ll find what you’re looking for, it can talk to you
Version 4 is a completely revised version but still in development. Not yet usable in real situations for the moment, but it’s coming.
In terms of hardware, there are several brands and several technologies. It all depends on your needs.
For the lights, do you want to be able to control them both by the physical switch and by the home automation?
Same question for the shutters?
If so, a small tip: take advantage of the fact that your house is not yet wired! Keeping the physical switches coupled with the home automation may require wiring modifications.
Is there a demo site for the Gladys web interface? Just to know where I’m getting into!
There’s a misunderstanding (unfortunately) I’m buying a house ALREADY finished, with physical switches.
I guess this won’t simplify things but I’m ready to spend some time if needed.
Indeed what I would like is to keep the use of physical buttons in addition to home automation because my 4-year-old son and my wife may not take the plunge as quickly as me
I misunderstood, sorry. Well, you have a bit of work to do then
But nothing insurmountable, I assure you. I rewired quite a few switches at home to keep the physical part and couple it with home automation.
Fibaro or Qubino modules work with Z-Wave and will meet this need.
