Integration store: a faster catalog to welcome 1000 integrations 🚀

Hello everyone,

The community integrations store is exploding: we’re at 611 integrations, including 585 developed by the community, and we’re aiming for 1000 in the coming weeks. Thank you to everyone who publishes integrations!

The downside: with so many integrations, Gladys’ « Integrations Â» page was slow to load. And during loading, it displayed « 36 integrations Â» (only native integrations). For a few seconds, one could therefore believe that Gladys only had that.

I’ve reworked this page, here’s what’s changing.

A much lighter catalog

Until now, Gladys sent your browser the complete description of each integration (configuration parameters, widgets, scene triggers
), whereas the list only displays a small part of it. The store now publishes a lightweight version of its index, with only what the list needs. Result: the catalog is about 20 times lighter (114 KB instead of 2.4 MB). The full detail of an integration is only retrieved when you open its installation page.

No more misleading counter during loading

While community integrations are not loaded, the page displays « Loading catalog
Â» and grayed-out cards, instead of a partial total. Once loading is complete, the real total is displayed.

A display as you scroll

Integrations are displayed in batches of 48, and the next ones arrive automatically as you scroll down. Images are only downloaded as they approach the screen. Before, the page downloaded all integration visuals at once, over 20 MB.

A clear message if the store is unreachable

If Gladys cannot reach the store and has no cached copy, a message notifies you, with a « Retry Â» button. Before, the page simply displayed the native integrations, without explanation.

Less work for your box

Every 30 minutes, Gladys refreshes the list of integrations. It now downloads less than 1 MB instead of 17 MB, and writes much less to its database, which is appreciated on a small mini-PC.

For integration developers: nothing to change on your side, the lightweight version of the index is automatically generated from your manifests.

These improvements will arrive in the next version of Gladys.

Don’t hesitate to give me your feedback here!
