Three new integrations: Vancouver, Ottawa and Québec: TransLink, OC Transpo and RTC

Hello everyone,

After the STM Montréal integration, here are three new external integrations for other Canadian cities. They display in Gladys the next stops near you and, depending on the city, free-floating bikes and the status of the lines.

City Integration What it displays Account needed
:evergreen_tree: Vancouver TransLink Vancouver buses, SkyTrain, SeaBus, West Coast Express · SkyTrain line status · Mobi bikes none to start, free key for official real-time and line status
:maple_leaf: Ottawa OC Transpo Ottawa buses and O-Train, real-time for most routes none to start, free key for the official feed
:fleur_de_lis: Québec RTC Québec RTC buses (Métrobus, eXpress…) · àVélo bikes none, ever

Nothing to configure to get started

  1. Check that your home has an address in Gladys (Settings → Homes).
  2. Install the integration for your city and click on « Save ».
  3. Open the Discovery tab: the nearest stops and bike stations are already there, with their real name and the direction of the lines, for example « OC Transpo – Rideau / King Edward (6 → Greenboro) ». Click on « Add ».

For a stop far from home (work, school), the Find a Stop button finds its number from a street name or the number on the sign.

In Gladys

  • One device per stop: waiting minutes, line, and a summary like « 99 3 min · 14 ~11 min » (the « ~ » marks a scheduled time).
  • One device per bike station (Mobi, àVélo): bikes, electric bikes, free spots.
  • SkyTrain, SeaBus and West Coast Express (Vancouver, with key): the status of each line and the TransLink message.
  • Dashboard widgets: stops, bike station, line status.
  • Scenes:
    • trigger « stop in 5 min », to turn on the hallway light for example;
    • trigger « Expo line disrupted », to receive a message;
    • trigger « empty or full station »;
    • action « read next stops ».

Gladys 5.1.0 or newer is required. Look for « TransLink », « OC Transpo » or « RTC » in the integrations catalog.

Call for testers :folded_hands:

These are 0.1 versions. I’m particularly looking for:

  • Vancouverites and Ottawans with a developer key: I haven’t been able to test the official real-time feeds with a real key yet;
  • feedback on the name of the proposed stops and on the clarity of the messages for a non-technical person;
  • in the spring, news from the àVélo and Mobi stations removed for the winter: they should reappear on their own.

Issues can be reported here or in the GitHub issues.

Thanks

  • To Transitous, a free community service that provides schedules and part of the real-time data without any key.
  • To the open data of TransLink, OC Transpo and the City of Ottawa, RTC, as well as the public feeds of Mobi and àVélo.

Unofficial integrations, affiliated with none of these operators.
