If anyone has a robot vacuum by Dreame or Roborock, an open-source project (Valetudo) lets you replace the robot’s system and consequently control it from the local network.
All of this controllable via MQTT, could give some ideas

For Roborock there is a Node-RED extension that works very well too, just in case

yep it’s not bad, but the advantage here is that you’re no longer dependent on the Xiaomi server and everything stays local 
and potentially fully in your home automation rather than Node-RED + home automation
