Alternative to Beelink

Hello everyone,

I’m looking into Mini PCs and I’m torn between several models. I’ve spotted the GMKtec G10 which seems interesting, but I wonder if it’s really competitive compared to a Beelink in terms of price and performance.

Has anyone here already tested the GMKtec G10? Is it worth it compared to a Beelink for Gladys Assistant?

Thanks in advance for your feedback and advice!

Hi @WaFid and welcome to the forum!

I don’t have a Beelink or GMKtec at home but a Dell OptiPlex Micro cluster running Proxmox and it runs very well.

In any case I was also wondering if anyone had already tested a Zimaboard 2.
I find the configuration rather interesting and the price reasonable for the specs.
There is the ZimaBlade, cheaper but requires a bit more hardware tinkering (adding RAM and an SSD via USB or PCIe).

EDIT: judging by European prices compared to the price on Zima’s shop, I get the impression that customs fees are high . And they will raise prices on their shop starting 6/02 because of the rising price of RAM (+$60).

Hi! So I don’t really know what to do, whether to get the starter kit or buy a machine on my own…

Hi!

The starter kit also gives you access to Gladys Plus and the complete guide created by @pierre-gilles! If that can help tip the scales…

Ah yes, okay! Besides, I’m a complete beginner! Apart from Philips Hue, I don’t know anything!

Hello @WaFid,

You also have the option if you want something more economical. You can find interesting things like this mini PC Mini PC - Ordinateurs.

It’s up to you to follow the Gladys tutorial to install the machine. You can always get Gladys Plus for support.

Awesome. How much did you pay for it including shipping?

$244.80 total, including a $15 coupon, free shipping because >$100, so a total of €207.65 after my bank’s conversion.

With the convention, it’s really worth it. Thank you.

I looked at the Zimablade 7700 model and it’s much better than a Raspberry Pi 5 for less money. And the ZimaOS looks really good.

@mutmut I wonder if you’ll be able to offer the Gladys application. What worries me is the ability for integrations to launch a Docker container. I’m thinking of Z2M.

I’ll test that and I’ll report back on the forum.

For the Zimablade, remember to add RAM, storage and the power supply to the final price.

It’s $145 for the whole thing; it’s unbeatable compared to an equivalent Raspberry Pi.

@mutmut have you had time to play around with the Zimaboard?

I tested ZimaOS very quickly, which I find very good, but not yet with 2 SSDs to check the storage and available RAID, nor with a GPU to test passthrough to a VM.

Are you planning to migrate Gladys onto it?

No, I’m leaving Gladys on my Proxmox cluster for high availability.
However, I need to get down to creating the Gladys integration on ZimaOS — I haven’t yet taken the time to revisit it.

I checked, it already exists.

Indeed, I got beaten to the punch

However, I’m curious who set it up because to stay consistent with the doc, it should have used:

  • port 8420 instead of 1080
  • Gladys latest version instead of 4.71.0
  • category Home Automation (like for Home Assistant) instead of BigBearCasaOS
  • force the directory name to gladysassistant instead of big-bear-gladys.

Well, that’s just me being picky

But it’s a shame there wasn’t an announcement on the forum :frowning:, that would have been great.

I recommend the tag v4 instead  That’s the one in the docs.

No idea who did that ^^ It might just be an automated tool
