I agree with you that the problem comes from the lack of homogeneity of the devices and their features.
Personally I find there’s nothing intuitive about putting 0 or 1 for an open/close sensor device. Neither one way nor the other
So whatever the direction… I only look at the final result, not the possible logic ^^
It’s clear that the sensor value doesn’t belong here. We only need open and closed.
Personally, it doesn’t bother me — otherwise you’d have to handle the same thing for other devices as follows (it’s the setup part we only do once so…) you just need to adapt the values (even if the code isn’t meant to work like this, but it works) the most logical to me seems to be to keep the operation 0 = off 1 = on, or 0 open 1 closed, or 0 OFF 1 ON.
Typical case: the same sensor but one is Normally Open, the other is Normally Closed

Hello, I just installed one and I’m currently testing how it works from Alsace when the cat sitter comes by. The state change of my sensor is set to open and it correctly detects the door opening.
I receive a Telegram message at the other end of France a few seconds after it opens.
PS: the camera integration is great for keeping an eye on kitty.
