Request for advice on Gladys installation

Hello! I have a small question
Being a beginner in home automation, I don’t have a Raspberry Pi in my drawers. However, I have an old laptop with a rather good configuration that I think could do the job. Could I install an Ubuntu 20.04 distribution on it and run Gladys Assistant? Because I tried to install Gladys on an Ubuntu virtual box but I couldn’t connect to the web panel
So I wonder if it would be technically feasible to install Ubuntu on my laptop as the main OS and install Gladys via Docker.
Thank you in advance for your help :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
Have a nice weekend!

Hello @GaetanPTX and welcome!

This is quite possible

You will just need to launch Gladys with Docker as in the Docker tutorial on the website

Thank you for your response!
I’ll keep you informed of my progress in installing Gladys

Subject: Re, following up on my installation.

Everything has gone well so far  Basically, I have several Xiaomi cameras at my home and I would like to connect them to Gladys. To do this, I am following the documentation and when creating my account, I select the country « China » but I have an infinite page load. I have tried on my Mac and from the Mi Home mobile app. I don’t know if the documentation is up to date regarding Xiaomi devices.

Every time I select the country « China », it gives me an error or an infinite loading. I don’t know if anyone has an explanation.

Is there an infinite loading issue in your Mi Home app?
Which cameras do you have?

Yes, or on my web browser, I think it’s a problem from Xiaomi

It’s a Xiaomi 360 1080p

After that, I’ll look into « hacking » the camera firmware to get a direct stream from a URL and avoid all the manipulations due to the fact that it goes through Xiaomi’s API.

I highly recommend this to you! I did it with my Yi Home 1080.

For the moment it’s « not possible » because the git repositories are no longer updated and in the issues some people are trying to update the « hack » but it doesn’t work with my camera.
If it’s the model MJSXJ05CM
In the coming days I will try to continue to gather information as I see that this solution is to make it easier to install on gladys

I’ve never looked at your cam model, but I know there are a lot of revisions of the hack (allwinner, allwinner2, etc.). Have you covered them all?

I’m currently checking the Git repositories, but I’m encountering a small issue that apparently no one else has had. When I put the SD card in the cam and start it, the camera starts normally and ignores the SD card.

Oh shoot yes… I had this issue with one of mine… Until I found the right hack!

I must not give up then
