Speaker / microphone to communicate with Gladys

Someone told me today about a device that was recently integrated into Home Assistant and I found it super interesting:

It can:

  • trigger by voice (using a wake word, like « Ok google ») a listening session for HA
  • trigger the same thing with a physical click

And I just discovered that it also has a speaker function which allows direct interaction, like with those little gadgets whose name I’ve forgotten, from Amazon or Google / others..

If I’m not mistaken it’s based on ESP32 — I imagine that will appeal to many here (not so much to me!).

Could a device like this be integrated into Gladys and help answer the often-asked question about voice interaction with our favorite assistant?!

@guim31

Interesting on paper — it looks like an Amazon Echo but with about 200 recognized words
Apparently, there is no API that would allow linking to Gladys nor any MQTT-type interaction possible

And no positive feedback so far on the Atom Echo

but that may have evolved since :thinking:

I haven’t read everything, but the source of the info is this: Year of the Voice - Chapter 4: Wake words - Home Assistant
