Hello from Germany

Hi there!

My name is Stefan and I’m from Germany. I’m a software engineer for more than 20 years and also a HA user for several years and wanted to look for an alternative. I found Glady interesting so I installed it yesterday testwise. 10 years back, when I built my house I added free@home bus system to it. There is no integration yet, but I wanted to build that. I love what I’ve seen so far. It’s working pretty well.

What holds me back at the moment, and maybe someone can explain, is that the entire community is french. I mean, I got that you are from France, but when you want to spread the word about Glady, getting more and more users on board I think a language like english would improve that a lot. Especially here in the community in discourse. And no, the live AI translation is not an option. Every single thread I follow, like and where I get email notifications I get in the original language which is basically useless for me cause I can’t neither read it, nor understand it. Same is true for chat or screenshots that got posted.

I don’t want to be rude or anything, I just asked myself why it’s not english (and maybe dedicated categories for each language, like french, german, etc), because I think it’s pretty common to communicate in english between developers anyway and to spread the world it might be way more simpler.

Anyway, right now I feel it might be a one way direction for me, so I’m waiting a bit longer how it evolves over time. In any case, I like the progress, I like the design, I like basically everything  So whenever you need something or want to know anything, just let me know

Hi Stefan and welcome here!!

I’m not sure what language you see on the forum, as everything is displayed in French on my side, even your message  I don’t know if Discourse takes the time to translate things in its notifications… Something to investigate!

You’re right to question the absence of English by default… but you should know a few things about the French in general:

  • we’re generally clueless about foreign languages, even English!
  • we’re resistant to change
  • we’re as chauvinistic as can be ^^

You understand the scale of the problem from a French person’s point of view

In any case, I hope you’ll stay a bit on Gladys, and if you also develop your own integration, that’s the best.

See you soon!

Welcome to Gladys!

@guim31 I think you’ve summed up what a French person is like.

Welcome to Germany from Germany.

Tip: There’s a dropdown menu in the top right corner… French, German or English

(and between you and me: finally another one… those French people always :joy: :joy: :joy: )

Currently, almost all developers here are working with the new version of Gladys and have massively increased their output, which has resulted in a kind of multilingualism and is catching on. Just keep going, that helps (DeepL helped me)

Best regards

Tom

Hi, welcome!

Indeed the forum translates all messages, but doesn’t do so via emails surprisingly.

Perhaps a future addition by the forum?

The feature was missing from our Discourse forum until now, but from what I can see, it was developed 2 weeks ago:

However, the feature is not yet in production on the stable channel, according to Claude:

The commit is not yet on the stable channel. It is only on latest.

  • PR #44240 (« FEATURE: Use translated content in notification and digest emails ») was merged into main on October 5, 2026 (commit 3af8bcdc).
  • latest channel (main / tests-passed): it is there. Sites following latest, including instances hosted by Discourse, should already have it.
  • Stable channel: it is not there. Discourse no longer has a stable branch. Its stable channel is now the monthly release/YYYY.M releases. The last one, release/2026.9 (v2026.9.0, released on September 22), received backports until today, but not this one. It is also not in release/2026.8.

It is a feature and not a fix, so it will probably not be backported. It should arrive on the stable channel with v2026.10.0, which is not yet tagged. Given the monthly pace, it is probably expected towards the end of October.

Then I could just write in German if everything is translated anyway

Thanks for the info. I’ll wait for the update as well  And I’ll work on 2 integrations over the weekend. That reminds me of a question, even if it might be a bit off-topic: Can you also send webhooks to Gladys? So can I somehow specifically react to webhooks in an integration? Background: I would like to react to our fire alarm. I can assign concrete URLs to it that are called in case of an alarm and a Gladys URL would be useful here. (Whether this is solved via GladysPlus or making the system public yourself is another question). But can Gladys handle incoming HTTP requests in some way?

Yes, you can send webhooks from anywhere in the world with Gladys Plus:

No need to worry about having an instance open on the internet

Perfect. Maybe I’ll start with this slightly « easier » integration and see how it feels. I opened Gladys (whose name I still can’t remember today) for the first time yesterday  Thanks for the input.

From what I see, it will be available on October 27th, so in 11 days

Last question on this topic @pierre-gilles: I just got Glady Plus, but of course that will be linked to my productive instance. How can I test my new integration with the webhooks that run on a separate local developer instance of Gladys? I don’t want to sign up for 2 Plus subscriptions now

Locally, you can use the local HTTP API:

It’s not exactly the same API, but you can do the same things

Otherwise, just use your Gladys Plus account on one side, then reconnect it to the other instance when you’re done with your tests

My wife will kill me if her beloved home isn’t reachable temporarily during this time. We have over 2000 entities in the house and she’s used to things (mostly) working here. Haha. But I’ll find a solution. Thanks!

@pierre-gilles I’ve already read a bit in the forum, but I’m now unsure how you handle this concretely. I’ve started working on the integration for https://www.ff-agent.com/ (and I’m actually almost finished). Where exactly should I post in the forum that I’m working on it and where, when I’m finished? I want to contribute a bit so that there are a few more integrations here by the end of the year

You can post here that you are developing a module: Intégrations Home Assistant les plus populaires → candidates pour des intégrations externes Gladys

Then you have the Gladys developer documentation that lists everything you need to know, so that your work is directly accessible in Gladys.
