For our German neighbors and, more broadly, for all of Europe: the DWD integration is available in the store (v1.0.0):
This is an unofficial connector, with no link to the Deutscher Wetterdienst. It makes the German national weather service the weather provider for Gladys, based on its open data: nothing to enter, no account or key, the position of the house is sufficient.
What it brings
Surface
Content
MOSMIX Forecasts
Hour-by-hour forecasts for 10 days (temperature, feels like, humidity, pressure, wind and gusts, cloud cover, visibility, precipitation and probability, sunshine), closest station among ~4,300 in Europe
Current Conditions
Hourly observations from the closest synoptic station (~630 in Europe), otherwise the forecast for the hour
Official Warnings
DWD warnings for the municipality (wind, thunderstorms, rain, snow, frost, black ice, fog, heat…), title translated into French, text and advice in German; Gladys is notified within a few minutes when they change
DWD Warnings Widget
Severity, period, description, and advice for each current warning
Pollen Widget
DWD pollen index today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, pollen by pollen (hazel, alder, ash, birch, grasses, rye, mugwort, ragweed), with advice
Scene Trigger
“Pollen level changed” (none / low / medium / high, one event per level crossed)
UV Index
The maximum expected for the closest of 38 German cities, spread throughout the day
Radar
DWD precipitation composite (1 km, 5 min) over 300 × 200 km around the house, in the weather widget
Examples of scenes: close windows and switch the VMC to recycling mode when birch reaches “medium”, morning notification when grasses go to “high”, and the Gladys Weather Alert trigger for official warnings.
Good to know
Forecasts and observations cover all of Europe (a French user can therefore use it: Paris, Lyon… have their MOSMIX station and their observations). Warnings, pollen, UV, and radar are German only and are said to be unavailable elsewhere.
The feels-like temperature is the Steadman apparent temperature: the DWD does not publish it.
Reading at most every 15 minutes (5 for warnings), last weather kept for 6 hours if the DWD does not respond.
A Test DWD Sources button in the configuration tells which stations are used and what each source has responded.
Developed on real data from the portal, but not yet on a real instance in Germany: the first feedback (widget rendering, warnings, pollen season) is particularly interesting to me.
Both integrations with their widgets among each other. Regarding weather warnings, no major differences. So far, they work perfectly, we haven’t had a storm yet
My suggestions for improvement:
For some widgets, I had to enter the location of the house again in the widget, even though it was already selected in the configuration?
The display of pollen does not make sense when all are at 0, where is the rest or why are only three displayed. Here, one could limit it to active pollen, because grasses are in the summer and trees in the spring or similar. Or all are zero.
I find the location and time information great, they are consistent and correctly assigned for my location.
And maybe someone else feels like tapping into the Federal Environment Agency? They have a similar location division and provide the AQI, i.e. the Air Quality Index for particulate matter, ozone, etc… then you would have a fine-grained pollen, weather and air widget for Germany and much more accurate than a superficial look from Openweathermap.
But all in all, I am enthusiastic about your work, very well done. I will try scene control soon.
I’ve included your three points in the next version (1.2.0):
House to retake in the widget: the field is now a dropdown list of Gladys’ houses (in widgets and scene triggers), nothing to type anymore. Empty, it’s the first house. The « DWD Warnings » widget keeps a separate field for an alert cell. This requires Gladys 5.2, released yesterday.
Pollen: the widget now only lists the pollen present in the air, from strongest to weakest. Outside the season, a single line says « None of the 8 pollens », instead of three lines at zero.
Air quality: it’s done, in the same module. New « Air Quality » widget with the hourly index of the Umweltbundesamt at the station closest to the house (within 50 km), pollutant by pollutant (NO₂, O₃, PM10, PM2.5…), the worst hour in the last 24, the station and its type (background, traffic, industry), and the advice for the level. A scene trigger « air quality level changed » (very good → very bad), and an optional alert from « bad ». The station can be forced in the configuration, for example to take a background station instead of a traffic station.
The texts are also in German. I’ll publish the version as soon as possible; if you can test it in Berlin or at your place, your feedback on the station choice interests me.
