The first version of the Google Nest integration is available:
This is an unofficial connector, with no link to Google. It uses
Google’s official API (Smart Device Management) and requires Gladys 5.1
or newer. It installs from Gladys’s integration store
(categories Climate and Security).
What v1 does

Events arrive in real time (doorbell, motion, instant updates
for thermostats) via a Pub/Sub topic from your Google Cloud project.
No Gladys Plus or third-party server
- Each user creates their own Device Access project (Google charges
$5 US one time) and their own OAuth client. Your Gladys talks
directly to Google, with your credentials. - The connection is local: you click on « Connect », you
authorize access at Google, then you paste into Gladys the address of the
page where Google stops. The code goes from Google to your Gladys via your
copy-paste, with no intermediate page. - Events are read directly from Google. No need for Gladys Plus.

Local first: your Matter thermostats
The Nest Thermostat (2020) and the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th
generation) are compatible with Matter. If you only need the
temperature, setpoint, and mode, pair them instead with
Gladys’s Matter integration: 100 % local, no Google account, no
$5. In the Google Home app: thermostat → Settings →
Associated Matter apps and services.
Cameras, doorbells, and other Nest thermostats have no local interface: Google’s API is the only way, and that’s what this
integration does.
The limits
- Depends on Google’s cloud: without Internet, no control of
Nest devices (except thermostats paired with Matter). - Demanding installation: Device Access project at $5, Google
Cloud project, consent screen to publish « In production » (otherwise Google
disconnects you every 7 days), Pub/Sub topic for events. - Cameras without live video: older models (Nest Cam IQ, Nest
Cam Indoor/Outdoor, Nest Hub Max, Nest Hello wired) provide an image on demand. Newer models (battery-powered, wired from 2021 and later,
recent doorbells) only provide the image of their last event. - Thermostats: the Nest schedule is neither read nor modified, Eco temperatures are read-only.
- Google quotas: a few commands per minute and per device; devices are read every 5 minutes by default.
- Not supported by Google’s API: Nest Protect, Nest x Yale,
Nest temperature sensors, Learning Thermostat 1st and 2nd generation,
Google Workspace accounts.
Next steps
In the integration
- Fix what your first tests will reveal, as a priority.
- A « doorbell » widget for the dashboard: last image, last press.
- Eco temperatures as thermostat presets.
- Live image from recent cameras (WebRTC), if the container memory allows and if you are many to ask for it.
