Integration - Xbox

Hello everyone,

I present to you a new external integration to control your Xbox consoles (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S) from Gladys.

What it does

It has two channels, which you can use alone or together.

Local channel (your network, no account):

  • finds consoles on the network;
  • sees if they are on;
  • turns them on.

Cloud channel (Xbox Live, with your Microsoft account), in addition:

  • turns off;
  • volume and mute;
  • media buttons and controller buttons;
  • launch a game;
  • display the current game.

With both channels, the option « Prefer local connection » chooses the channel used first. A badge on each console indicates the channel used.

In Gladys

Device of type TV: on/off, mute, volume +/-, play/pause, previous/next, arrows, A/B, Menu, Xbox button, and the current game.

Scene triggers:

  • a game starts on an Xbox;
  • a game stops, with the minutes played.

Example: send « Lucas played 95 minutes of Minecraft » by message.

Scene actions:

  • turn on an Xbox and wait for it to respond;
  • launch a game;
  • press a controller button.

Dashboard widget: power, current game, connection, and quick buttons (on, home, play/pause, off).

Before you start

On the console:

  1. Settings → General → Power options → Standby (Series) or Instant-on (One).
  2. For the cloud: Settings → Devices & connections → Remote features → enable.

For the cloud (optional):

  1. Create a free app in the Azure portal: https://portal.azure.com (personal Microsoft accounts, Web platform).
  2. Paste its ID and secret in the integration configuration.
  3. Click on Connect. Gladys never sees your password: only a refresh token is kept.

:warning: Microsoft requires a return address in https. Open Gladys via its https address (Gladys Plus or reverse proxy) when clicking on Connect.

Installation

  1. Install the Xbox integration from Gladys store.
  2. Click on « Test connection and find consoles ».
  3. Create your consoles in the Discovery tab.

If a console is not found (other subnetwork, router filtering), enter its IP address in the configuration.

Known limitations

  • Turn off and buttons only go through the cloud. Locally, the console can only be turned on.
  • The current game comes from your Xbox account, not the console. With two consoles on, they display the same game.
  • In « Turn off (energy saving) » mode, the console cannot be turned on by the network.

Your feedback

This is a first version. It has been tested with a console and a simulated Xbox Live, not yet on a real console: your feedback is welcome!

To report a bug, open an issue on Issues · prohand/gladys-xbox · GitHub adding:

  • your console model;
  • the versions of Gladys and the integration;
  • the logs, without tokens or addresses.

Thanks! :folded_hands:
