External integration - Discord (chat with Gladys)

Hi everyone!

Discord is becoming a messaging channel for Gladys, like Telegram: you
chat with Gladys and receive her notifications in private messages, via
your own bot.

What it does

  • Code Linking: Each Gladys user generates a code in Gladys and sends it to the bot in a private message. That’s it.
  • Two-way communication: Your private messages to the bot go to Gladys, and her responses and notifications arrive in private messages, including camera images (using the « Send a message » action in scenes).
  • A trigger « Discord Command Received »: A private message that starts with ! (e.g., !gate) launches a scene instead of going to the assistant. Only linked accounts can do this.
  • A scene action « Publish in a Discord Channel »: A notification in a channel of your server (family, home…).
  • A Test the bot button, which also provides the invitation link.

The cool part

  • Someone rings → the camera photo arrives in a private message.
  • !heating → the « heating comfort » scene starts from the office.
  • The evening summary (temperature, alarm, consumption) published in the #home channel of the family server.

Installation

Gladys 5.1 minimum. It will be available in the store at the next indexer run. Can’t wait? 1. On the Discord developer portal, create an application, add a bot, and copy its token into the configuration.
  2. Test the bot provides the link to invite it to a server you share with it.
  3. In Gladys, generate your linking code and send it to the bot in a private message: it responds « Account linked! ».

The documentation details each step of the Discord portal.

Honest small reservations

  • Beta: The connection to Discord and errors have been verified on the real service, but not yet a complete round trip with a real bot. Your feedback is welcome.
  • Chatting with Gladys’s assistant requires Gladys Plus. Notifications and ! commands work without.
  • Private messages only: the bot does not read channels and does not request any privileged permissions.
  • Everyone creates their own bot and keeps their token: nothing goes through a third-party server.
