Afin de discuter avec Gladys si on ne veut pas forcément utiliser Telegram, on peut passer par Matrix
Gladys serait un bot avec qui on pourrait discuter en 1-1 ou dans un salon
+1 for this integration request that I’m following up on.
In 2023, @Manfraid proposed the development but apparently did not complete it.
Today, Gladys offers 4 options to communicate externally:
1- Free SMS: requires having a Free subscription; only targets a limited number of users
2- the Gladys API: requires coding a script and maintaining it outside the Gladys environment. Only appeals to a small number of users
3- Nextcloud Talk: open and encrypted, the best option in my opinion but requires deploying and maintaining a Nextcloud server, which is far from trivial
4- Telegram: the messaging app originally Russian, now based in Dubai; not the most open and centralized
Matrix has a philosophy similar to Gladys’s. It’s an open-source and interoperable standard. From what I’ve read, it can bridge to other messengers like Slack or WhatsApp. Potentially, if that’s actually achievable, WhatsApp, used by the majority of instant messaging users, would without a doubt allow Gladys to gain users.
In principle, the library offered by @peb and maintained by the Matrix project could be easily integrated into the project.
What do you think?
Hello
I think the idea is good (especially from an ethical point of view). But the number of Matrix users is very low (as a percentage).
So unless a brave user/developer implements this integration, I don’t think it should be a priority.
Which communication method do you use
For your information, since Gladys Assistant 4.55, it is now possible to send Gladys messages to WhatsApp and Signal:
@pierre-gilles ,
congratulations on this new release.
When bidirectional text and images are supported, it’s obvious that Gladys will gain users.
@cicoub13 summed up this feature request in one word: « ethics » … this is also why some users switch to Gladys.
At first glance callmebot does not allow it, at least for images:
![]()
But textmebot allows it and apparently it is possible to do bi-directional:
But the latter is paid ![]()
Indeed, the CalleMeBot integration will never be able to support images or bidirectional messaging.
There are APIs for that, but all paid as far as I’ve seen.
If there’s demand, I can develop that via Gladys Plus ![]()
I encourage you to create a feature request if you want a bi-directional WhatsApp integration with Gladys Plus ![]()
