New YouTube video: Using Gladys Assistant 4's MQTT API in Node.js (Live coding)

Last week, I published a video Gladys Assistant 4 Demo, and you are already more than 700 to have watched the video in one week!!

Following this success, I am publishing a new video, this time more technical.

In this video, I show you how to use the Gladys MQTT API from Node.js.

I chose Node.js because it’s a platform I use every day, but the operation is the same for any language that supports MQTT (Python, Java, PHP, C, C++, it doesn’t matter)

The video is a live coding session, nothing scripted: It’s more of a live coding couch atmosphere than a lesson

So yes, I make a lot of mistakes during the coding, left intentionally to show you that even a professional dev spends 3/4 of their time searching through docs, code examples :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t hesitate if you have feedback, and if you want me to make a video on a particular topic, don’t hesitate to ask!

Top that, but your living room really looks like a kitchen

Oh dear, I knew there was no place for an oven here! :joy:

The video is really nice, even though I’m not the target audience. I think it could interest a lot of people.

Thanks @Tlse-vins! I think I’ll continue with the videos, it’s a good way to show the possibilities of Gladys.

Actually, I feel like out of all the work I’ve done in the last 6 months, few people have seen the real possibilities offered by Gladys, whereas for me, as it stands, it’s already super powerful. Sure, there are things missing, we don’t have all the integrations in the world yet, but for now, just with the « strong » integrations we have (I’m thinking of Zigbee2mqtt, MQTT, Philips Hue, Owntracks, Caldav and Telegram) + the scenes that are starting to be powerful, it’s already possible to set up a Gladys of the future.

The video is coming to show what is possible, and I hope it will motivate people to join us

I added the demo video to the site otherwise:

I went through the trouble of making the video load only on-click, I made a fake YouTube play button, so the homepage performance isn’t impacted.

To have a community on Twitch by doing some live streams?
You would have questions from new curious viewers as well as from new viewers who are more into technique searching.

Does this really have an interest compared to YouTube? (I don’t know, I’ve never used Twitch)

Why not in real life, I’m open to anything to show Gladys and convert people

The advantage of Twitch is the direct relationship with the viewer, which allows you to think in real-time with them, unlike YouTube where feedback is delayed.

It also allows you to do live polls or things like that live to get your viewers’ opinions

Okay, and do you usually watch Twitch at what time? More during the week or more on the weekend?

So I can see how it might work with the time difference (I live in Indonesia, +6 hours compared to France)

For my part, not too much on the weekend, more during the week and in the evening.
But it also happens during the day while telecommuting to have background audio to remind me of my beloved open-space :joy:

Considering the time difference, between noon and 2 PM on weekdays, that should be possible, right?

Absolutely possible yes  Maybe more on the weekend though, I think, everyone has to work during the week, right? Well, I really don’t know, maybe young people are more free during the week?

I’m saying this from my 26 years of age :joy:, after that, I’m used to workdays where I emerge at 7 PM after a non-stop day, I never have time for this kind of content so I don’t really know what people do

Yeah and if you have kids :child: too

For Twitch live streams, it would be really interesting to stream the development of certain features of Gladys. I’ve seen that this is done a lot for websites and video game creations, with between 30 and 100 people each time I came across this kind of content.

@Albenss has well summarized the principle of Twitch.
I watch more in the evening after 8 PM on weekdays. But for you, it will be tough!
I don’t think it’s necessary at the beginning to do it every week, but once a month and participate in other more known live streams like Micode.

  • Presentation of Gladys and the features present
  • Future development of such or such integration (involve the streamers)

Yes, even debugging (but there isn’t any on Gladys so the live will be very short
You would need a second in Europe, Pierre-Gilles, wouldn’t you @VonOx.

In our time, or at least in our generation, we no longer consume traditional television.

For my part, when I can, it’s live Twitch, otherwise it’s YouTube reruns. (When the streamer doesn’t forget the audio, hi @AlexTrovato)

Okay, I’ll see what I can do then :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Let’s test Twitch!

I’ve created a Twitch account for Gladys! => Twitch

Since tomorrow (Monday) is a holiday, it would be a good opportunity to do a live stream, right?

Tomorrow morning, Monday, May 24th, would you be interested in a Twitch live stream, and if so, at what time?

  • 9:00 AM
  • 10:00 AM
  • 11:00 AM

In terms of topics, it depends on the audience, but I can do a bit of everything:

  • Either a presentation of Gladys with Q&A
  • Or a live coding session developing a service (but that might be too complicated for a first live stream, depending on the audience)

I think that for the first live, you should do a general presentation.
When the time is determined, I will talk about it on the domotique Discord.

Live Twitch at 9 AM then!
