Home automation: what can Gladys Assistant, Home Assistant bring me, a humble retiree, in addition to Amazon Alexa. Are all the apps that need to be added to run Gladys paid, like Gladys Plus by the way? I hope you’ll play along so we can discuss. See you soon

From my point of view, first you need to know:

  • what is your goal? (like controlling lights / managing an alarm / managing your whole house from top to bottom / etc..)
  • based on that, which project is most suitable for you?

I don’t understand what you mean by paid things?

Personally I chose to equip myself only with Zigbee devices, moreover compatible with Zigbee2MQTT.
I didn’t buy anything

I have Somfy shutters, for example, and I was recommended IFFF, and it’s not free.

Somfy is not part of the developed and available integrations.

Gladys is free.
I subscribe to « Gladys Plus » to support the project; I almost never use it except when I’ve messed up my scenes and, instead of redoing everything, I do a restore.
Of course you still have to buy the hardware, but that’s also true for other Home Assistant, etc.
