Just to come back to this topic, for your information we now have a Google Home and Alexa integration—doesn’t that do the job for you?

Or is this request mainly for those who don’t want these voice assistants in their homes?

I admit I’m having trouble understanding who this request is aimed at, because:

  • Either you’re more of a « grand public » user who wants a turnkey solution, and in that case there’s Google Home/Alexa in 3 clicks
  • Or you’re an advanced user, who therefore knows how to launch a Docker container to play with more DIY projects like Rhasppy.

I have the impression that the requests here are looking for the three-legged sheep: mainstream users with a 3-click, local solution, with the same quality as Alexa/Google Home. I may disappoint some, but that doesn’t exist :grimacing:

I’m disappointed…

:joy::joy:

No, but I also think it’s kind of the Gladys user’s dream: a turnkey AND local AND that understands everything!
I admit I dream about it too… Not a big deal for me, it’s not a must-have, far from it :ok_hand:

Agreed in

Google and Alexa are great developments for Gladys.

I voted for this integration because I don’t want to tell Google to turn on the light; that’s not how I operate.
On the other hand, I would like Gladys to tell me what’s happening in my home at any given moment.

As I mentioned in my previous message, via a scene or a device state change.
I don’t think that’s possible with Google or Alexa.

It’s certainly the ultimate.
Besides, I know that @pierre-gilles is a pioneer and that he will do what is necessary to evolve Gladys even if it’s not this integration.

Worth looking into, but it might be possible. I know that on the Alexa side they have a notion of a voice alert, like Alexa notifying you of something. However, I believe that’s for specific alerts (not free text, but predefined alerts)

So that part can be looked into!

We may need to separate the two features.

  • Having audio playback of messages from the discussion chat
  • Being able to have voice conversations with Gladys

I agree, because they’re really two totally different things.

Well, as for the ticket, it’s clearly @Tlse-vins’s second point :upside_down_face:
I don’t know where the first one came from :winking_face_with_tongue:
We can then close the ticket since you can consider that Google and Amazon are enough  to trigger Gladys and create a second one to notify via another voice service ^^

I’m rather in favor, because in any case this ticket is far too generic.

It’s like creating a ticket « Being able to control all devices on the market in Gladys », that’s all well and good but it’s not actionable.

I am therefore closing this topic.

To interact with Gladys, two options:

If someone is interested in a feature to read messages aloud, I invite you to create another feature, this time more specific and with clearer naming.

Good naming example: From a scene, be able to play a message on a Sonos speaker
Bad example: Make Gladys speak

Edit: I should note that I’m not against a Rhasppy service if one ever appears; however, I feel that this very generic and highly voted request doesn’t add anything and blocks votes. I’m convinced that some of the voters thought this request covered Alexa/Google Home.
