Hi everyone :)

Well hello Gladys community :vulcan_salute:

I’ve been following the project from afar since its creation or almost, and I’ve decided to take the plunge today. I just installed Gladys under Docker on an Ubuntu VM on a Synology DS1621+ NAS. The first Sonoff sensors and the dongle have arrived — all that’s left to do!

I have advanced IT knowledge because of my job but unfortunately not particularly in development; I’m on the infrastructure side and I work much more with PowerShell, Bash and the like in scripting than with JavaScript in pure development mode. So I’d have difficulty proposing integrations myself, code reviews would probably take longer than development from scratch for others  but I’ll do my best to contribute my bit.

Once the first building blocks are in place I’m already almost certain I’ll switch to Gladys+, for its features of course but also and above all to support the project because the values it defends (security and privacy in particular) clearly resonate with me. I only got my first Sonos speaker, an Era 100, a month ago, before the integration — it’s a sign haha!

Congrats in any case to Pierre-Gilles and to all the devs who worked to make Gladys what it (she?) has become today, the result is really really nice

So see you soon on this topic or another and have a great weekend everyone :sun:

Welcome and thank you for that lovely introduction. There are many ways to contribute to the project without developing (documentation, tests, helping other users, …).

Thanks, I fully intend to if I can.
And there you go, an hour later, when I open my kitchen window it pauses my music on the Sonos speaker and restarts it when I

Welcome
Microsoft infrastructure then? Or Linux as well?
There are lots of ways to help, docs, devs, by talking about it around you, by participating in the forum, by buying hardware via the links on the site (a portion is given back to the project), basically the main thing is to participate  !
There’s a live-coding tomorrow morning at 10 AM… maybe a way to get your foot in the door or at least to see what’s under the hood of Gladys  and on top of that @pierre-gilles is bringing the croissants tomorrow morning… unless it’s someone else  !

On top of that we even provide the ideas… a little tutorial of your install for example :innocent:

Thanks

Infrastructure, let’s say in the broad sense within the industry. If some of these terms ring a bell for people to give an idea of my skill set, in no particular order: Windows / Linux / DataCore / Veeam / single-mode SC (Monomode SC) / DWDM / Cisco 9300 / EIGRP / hyperconverged / Citrix XenApp XenDesktop / VPN / DMZ / Web Services / Monitoring / PCI …

I already used the forum to order my first modules starting from this post by Pierre-Gilles: Système anti-intrusion - #2 par pierre-gilles

I’ll wait to better understand the Gladys engine before helping or writing docs, but it’s clearly something I could do in a little while

I will share my personal infrastructure in the appropriate section when the time comes, and with pleasure!

Hi @Philou and welcome to Gladys :raised_hands:

I saw you stopped by the live stream yesterday and that you were testing Gladys Plus  Feel free to ask if you need any help or have any questions about development or Gladys Plus.

Hi @pierre-gilles
I’ll go step by step. I have about ten sensors installed and I’m waiting for a new order. My first goal is to set up a high-quality Zigbee mesh using two or three smart plugs — my house has four levels — and then the intrusion protection after a few burglaries in my neighborhood.

Once I have the setup I have in mind in place, I’ll present my setup, maybe also in English — I understand English is your new focus, and you’re absolutely right :+1:

I’ll probably write an article about Gladys afterwards; I gained some recognition in the cryptocurrency space some time ago and Gladys’ values being perfectly aligned with mine (security, privacy, digital hygiene, community, sharing, kindness and transparency) there might be an opportunity there.

Very happy, in any case, to have taken the plunge; can’t wait to see what comes of it

Excellent! What exactly are you planning in terms of gear?

If there are any Zigbee devices that aren’t compatible, don’t hesitate, we can add support in Gladys.

Awesome! Your blog is cool, it’s very technical

If you ever need resources for an article (image, logo, etc…) or even

I’m starting from tested and approved equipment, beginning with door/window sensors as well as the dongle you recommended here: Système anti-intrusion - #2 par pierre-gilles

I had also for some time Aqara temperature and humidity sensors that I had ordered to get started, but it just wasn’t the right time.

I just ordered motion sensors, two 90 dB alarms, a USB hub for my NAS to be able to plug in several dongles, a USB extension to bring the dongle out of my patch panel, Zigbee plugs for meshing across the floors.

With all that I plan to set up the anti-intrusion system, and monitoring of the different rooms in my house. I have an old Sony Z2 tablet that I plan to hang on the wall; I’m wondering about the power supply which won’t necessarily be easy to bring to where I want it, but we’ll manage. I also have a Sonos speaker which I’m looking forward to using via Gladys.
If all that works correctly, I’ll consider replacing my radiator valves and harmonizing the temperature everywhere — maybe cooler in the bedrooms — that would make sense, and then perhaps a few additional bulbs and plugs, but this is starting to add up!

If I do it I’ll have you proofread it anyway and yes of course if we can enrich it with an interview why not (FR and EN?)

If I/we manage all that it’ll be pretty good, one step at a time. I’m not ruling out a video, but I don’t want to put the cart before the horse either
