Live: 2023 recap and plans for 2024! 🥳

Hi everyone,

First of all: happy new year to everyone

I wish you lots of good things for 2024, full of home automation I hope!!

New Year’s live stream to review the year

As every year, I will be live on YouTube tomorrow at 3:00 PM to do a retrospective on 2023:

  • The projects we’ve completed
  • The project’s growth in terms of revenue
  • The highs and lows of the year!

It will also be an opportunity to talk to you about my goals for 2024, there are many objectives, I have some great things to announce (or at least to tease you!!)

Gladys Assistant 4.34

I released a new version of Gladys on Monday with some fixes and one main new feature: Gladys Assistant is now available in German :germany:

Included fixes:

  • Emergency fix for an incompatibility with the latest version of Zigbee2mqtt that broke discovery in Gladys. Thanks to @cicoub13 for the fix and the responsiveness :raising_hands:
  • Fix for broken links to the documentation. Thanks @qleg!
  • Updated the Broadlink library. Thanks @AlexTrovato!
  • Fixed demo mode. Thanks @ngeissel!

The full CHANGELOG is available here.

The live stream starts in 5 minutes on YouTube!

We’ll meet here:

Feel free to ask your questions in the YouTube chat, I’ll be happy to answer them

Alright, I’ll try an idea for the teaser!
A commercial launch of a dedicated box with an immutable Linux on it + Gladys, Jeedom-style or HA (Home Assistant)? What a great idea!

Thank you all for coming to this start-of-year live

I recap everything I told you (and more!) in a blog post:

The live is available as a replay on YouTube as usual

The responses to the end-of-year survey are publicly available here:

If you have any other questions about Gladys, don’t hesitate — I’m 100% transparent!

Hello @pierre-gilles,

Thank you for sharing the 2023 review and the 2024 roadmap, Gladys is really an interesting project to follow.

As a big fan of Tasmota, I was surprised not to see Gladys listed on the Smart Home Integrations page (Smart Home Integrations - Tasmota).
The Tasmota integration in Gladys is great; MQTT remains, I find, the ideal protocol for communicating with sensors — the two projects ultimately fit together perfectly.

And above all, potentially being listed on the Tasmota site could bring new users.

I think you misread it, because Gladys is properly referenced in the link you posted. There is the Gladys logo and then the page below

Exactly, I hadn’t noticed. However, I don’t see the Gladys link in the left-hand menu:

Yes, you’re right, Gladys isn’t in the left-hand menu.

I’ll try a second one… support for the Matter protocol?

I’m not convinced. Matter isn’t sufficiently in place yet; there are many unknowns.

1 : a Gladys box
2 : ESPHome integration
3 : major evolution of the ChatGPT integration
4 : Gladys in real life (IRL)
5 : …

Hehe it’s funny to see your predictions for the #teasing

Thanks @Fabic :folded_hands:

Well, since @Tlse-vins posted 4 I have two credits  so I’ll try for the 3rd
Jarvis-style voice recognition!

I can give you some more if you want.

Replace ChatGPT with Mistral AI.

I’m getting in on this too, a small box with a microphone and a small speaker to put in each room and control gladys by voice!

Also, if you look at the projected sales figures, I think @pierre-gilles is preparing a product not specific to gladys… but that could be used on other home automation boxes, right?

In any case, stay tuned…

Supported by Tasmota since July 2023 and already in all the official

I’m not an expert, I have no idea.

Having an ESPHome integration would be a plus for those who want to tinker with their ESP.

I didn’t say otherwise, but if you watched Pierre-Gilles’ livestream starting at minute 42, he says he prefers to wait until Matter is well established before doing anything so as to avoid having to revisit the coding several times for nothing.

Thanks for your reply.
I didn’t watch the livestream, but yes, it’s probably a good idea to wait!

I found it!!! The possibility to install Gladys on Windows 1.0

That’s when you realize you’re a seasoned geek: when Windows 1.0 dBase on an 8088XT PC,

Windows 1.0 ?? I only knew it from Windows 3.1 onwards.

Hello
Indeed, I had Windows 3.0 on a floppy disk :man_white_haired:
