🎥 Live - 2025 review and plans for 2026 • Friday, January 16 at 8 PM

Hello everyone :waving_hand:

I’ll be live this Friday, January 16 at 8:00 PM on YouTube to give the 2025 review of the project and present the roadmap planned for 2026 :slightly_smiling_face:

If you have any questions (technical, product, vision, etc.), now’s the time to ask them: I’ll try to answer them during the live. You can of course also join the chat live on the day.

Thank you for this video.

When people talk to me about a home automation solution I try to promote Gladys. The sticking point for people who aren’t developers or IT-savvy is the installation. They don’t know anything about Docker, NAS, etc. If they buy a Gladys starter kit, what guarantees updates and support for the device in 10 years? Because they are not able to maintain it.

Gladys sits between Apple Home and Home Assistant in terms of accessibility and I think that’s the right niche. However, there isn’t a hardware product clearly identified and maintained directly by Gladys.

Could Gladys set as a 2026 objective to offer a Gladys box like Jeedom ATLAS or Home Green with:

  • A mini PC or a Raspberry Pi–style board, all installed in a custom enclosure with the Gladys icon prominently on it,
  • Optional:
    • A dongle for the Matter over Thread protocol (it would require adding OpenThread support)
    • With Gladys Plus, software support (OS updates, monitoring)

I think that would reassure people who want to get into home automation. In any case, that’s the feedback I have on Gladys.

Hi,

Thanks for the interesting comment!

I don’t know if you know, but Gladys already updates itself automatically. Everything is transparent now, and @pierre-gilles is doing an incredible job on accessibility and especially the project’s stability.

You can follow the topic here : Lancement du kit de démarrage officiel Gladys ! 🚀

The project to create hardware with Gladys pre-installed has already been launched! Would that fit your context?

If you have contact details for people who gave you that feedback, feel free to pass them on to me so I can speak with them directly

Regarding the starter kit, given mini PC prices in 2026, I think I’m going to delay my investments on this topic because at current prices it’s clearly too expensive. I’ll have to change my short-term strategy.

Hello @lmilcent. When I talk about « maj » I mean the operating system where Gladys is installed. The OS used is Ubuntu Server LTS, which is updated automatically for 5 years, and 10 years if you pay for the Ubuntu Pro service. You have to do it yourself.

After the 10-year maximum, you have to update the OS yourself. I’m fine with that — I’m used to it.

I think this is information that should be added to the Kits’ description to avoid misunderstandings and problems.

For now I’m inviting them to wait until more devices come out on Matter to have more choice, but afterwards why not. OpenThread is still missing in Gladys too, so as not to have to pay for an Ikea Hub.

Another piece of feedback is that one of the main goals for doing home automation is managing heating and air conditioning. Can you confirm that there isn’t such a feature, like the one for electricity consumption?

I agree — and is that indeed the right strategy.

I manage my air conditioning in Gladys without any problem

Short video:

https://www

As you say “they are not able to maintain it.”

So on their mini PC only Gladys will run.

I don’t know if @pierre-gilles will technically be able to add a terminal in Gladys, in which case it will be

I saw that you handle Mitsu ACs in the integrations — that’s a very good point, I have the same ones

When I talk about heating control I should have specified a smart control like what Versatile Thermostat does. After all, it might be a bit too much

Yes, it’s a feature that would be useful, I think.

I don’t show it in the video, but if you zoom in a bit, you can see that the temperature is adjustable  Then the air conditioning handles the regulation.

All modes (frost protection, etc.) are already natively managed in Gladys.

If I understand correctly, you’re talking about a feature to turn a « dumb » heater (on/off) into an intelligent heater by combining it with a temperature sensor present in Gladys.

If that’s the case, why not, feel free to create a feature request (if it doesn’t already exist)

Yes that’s exactly it  I’ll make a feature request.

The addition of a smart thermostat has already been requested here → Feature Thermostat complète

I voted for the feature.

I mentioned it during the live, one of the big challenges for 2026 is to raise awareness of Gladys

I think YouTube is a powerful platform, and I’ll try to create more content on that platform this year, focusing on two axes:

1. Long-form content about home automation in general

  • Not necessarily centered on Gladys, but on topics interesting even for those who don’t use it yet.
  • This can include formats like live coding, tutorials, or reviews of tools/hardware
  • The idea isn’t to become a full-time home automation YouTuber either: I’ll only make videos on topics I know well and that interest me.

2. Break this long content into short formats

  • To more easily reach an audience on YouTube Shorts and generate engagement.

I used the kickoff live to create 13 Shorts, which will be published every 2 days starting tonight and until February 16:

If you have ideas for formats / feedback on my videos, I’m all ears!!

Here’s what I suggest:

You create a second YouTube channel, « DomoFacile », for example, where you present yourself as a regular user of home automation products (it’s not necessary to show your face; the product is the most important element).

There you’ll do product unboxings, comparisons between different brands, and at the end of the video, since you use the Gladys Assistant solution, you’ll show how to integrate the device with it, adding a link to Gladys Assistant.

This will help avoid a high bounce rate at the start of the video, because people might think it’s only aimed at Gladys users.

Hi @bjm, thanks for your suggestions!

You create a second YouTube channel, « DomoFacile »

That’s not really what I have in mind. I prefer to keep the « Gladys Assistant » channel, which already has an audience and can naturally direct viewers to Gladys via the bio.

I already don’t produce enough content for a single channel, so running two would be way too much

You’ll do product unboxings there, comparisons between different brands

As for unboxings, I might do a few if I buy equipment personally in 2026, but I don’t have the ambition to become a home automation YouTuber. I’ve thought about it, and it’s not really what interests me.

I prefer to focus on content where I can really add value to viewers, on topics I know well

I’m in the process of preparing a list of video ideas!

Here are some additional ideas to explore:**

  1. YouTube content strategy**

Objective : Create accessible and technical content for users. Video ideas :

  • « Comparison: Gladys vs Home Assistant vs Jeedom » Highlight Gladys’ strengths (local, open-source, data privacy).

  • « My 5 favorite automations with Gladys » Share concrete, inspiring examples (e.g.: blinds control, smart lighting, security).

  • « How does Gladys protect your data? » Explain why a local solution is safer than cloud solutions.

Collaborations :

  • Contact YouTubers specialized in home automation (e.g.: Domadoo, La Chaîne de Jerem, Tutoriels Domotique) to invite them to test Gladys.

Instagram

Objective : Reach a young, visual audience. Content ideas :

  • Reels/TikTok :

    • « With Gladys, my house lights up by itself when I get home! » (short, dynamic video).

    • « Why did I leave [other solution] for Gladys? » (before/after format).

  • Interactive Stories :

    • Polls: « Which home automation feature do you miss the most? ».

    • Live Q&A: « I’ll answer all your questions about Gladys ».

  • Educational posts :

    • Infographics: « 3 reasons to choose Gladys for your home automation ».

    • Screenshots of customizable dashboards with captions in French.

Twitter/X

Objective : Engage the French-speaking tech and open-source community. Tweet/thread ideas :

  • Explanatory threads :

    • « Why is Gladys the ideal solution for 100% local and secure home automation? ».

    • « How does Gladys integrate with your existing smart devices? ».

  • News :

    • Share Gladys updates: « New version available! Discover what’s new ».
  • Community engagement :

    • Start discussions: « What’s your most useful home automation scenario? ».

    • Share testimonials: « Here’s how @UtilisateurUtilisateur automated their home with Gladys! ».

Partnerships with influencers and media

Objective : Leverage the credibility of local influencers and media. Ideas :

  • Tech influencers :

    • Invite creators like DirtyBiology, ScienceEtonnante, or Les Tutos de Huito to test Gladys and talk about it.
  • Specialized media :

    • Send a pitch to sites like Clubic, 01Net, FrAndroid, or Next INpact for an article or an interview about Gladys.
  • Podcasts :

    • Appear on French-speaking tech podcasts (e.g.: Tech & Co, Le Vortex) to explain the advantages of Gladys.

2. Events and webinars in French

Ideas :

  • Webinars :

    • Organize more live sessions: « Open-source home automation: Discover Gladys Assistant ».
  • Meetups :

    • Offer a presentation at tech or home automation meetups in France (e.g.: Maker Faire Paris, Capitole du Libre).
  • Contests :

    • Launch a « best home automation project with Gladys » contest with prizes (e.g.: Raspberry Pi, connected sensors).

3. User-generated content (UGC) in French

Ideas :

  • Testimonials :

    • Collect and share feedback from French-speaking users on social networks and Gladys’ website.
  • Project gallery :

    • Create a page dedicated to projects from French-speaking users (e.g.: « The connected home of [First name], in France »).

I have just replied to a customer review regarding a product sold by Domadoo (https://www.domadoo.fr/fr/produits-compatibles-jeedom/7616-moray-capteur-de-niveau-d-eau-liquide-carburant-zigbee-tuya-me201wz.html).
As usual, I mentioned Gladyassistant.
The new feature is that it’s possible to add photos. I took the opportunity to add screenshots of Gladys.
For now, my comment is pending moderation.
