Hi
I’ve been following this project’s development from afar since it appeared.
Long-time Jeedom user, more recently Home Assistant, I’m going to set up a Gladys instance to explore all of this in more detail.
For the profile, soon in my 50s, I’m a self-taught tinkerer and jack-of-all-trades, very independent, who has spent far too much personal time on far too many projects (outside home automation there was robotics, drones, 3D printers, electronics, radio transmission, cybersecurity, OSINT, and more).
I do some programming, in quite a few languages, but not at the level of someone who does it professionally. It kind of came naturally from getting my hands dirty (I started with Arduinos many years ago).
First, I want to salute @pierre-gilles for the quality of the code in his project and the well-thought-out structure.
Good technical choices, perfect readability, and modularity that allows for a lot.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere of this community and the kindness of its creator, especially towards newcomers. This is something the Jeedom team should take as an example, and I admit it makes me want to contribute.
I haven’t yet checked how the project resonates with English speakers; I hope it takes off there as well — that’s partly what left Jeedom on the margins for being too French-centric.
I’ll probably reference competing projects — not to troll, I assure you, but because there’s good stuff to take from everything.
One thing is for sure: I’m leaving Jeedom for good; I no longer condone the attitude of certain moderators who create a toxic atmosphere. There are also real technical reasons that would be long to detail here.
It was a good project that served me well, but its development no longer meets needs and lacks a modern technical vision.
I’ll try to do my part and share my humble experience with anyone who needs it.
