My name is David, and I’ve been immersed in home automation for about 5 years.
I started with Jeedom. I spent months there building something really well-made, functional and aesthetically neat. Then, like many I suppose, life went on and I hoped my setup would hold up on its own. Wrong. Jeedom became more and more complex with each update. By piling on features, stability eventually suffered. I found myself having to get my hands in it every week just to keep the thing standing. That’s not what you want from a home automation solution.
Two years ago I lost it and migrated to Home Assistant. In a few days, with Node-RED, I had rebuilt everything and I was really happy. But for the past two years, HA seems to be following the exact same path as Jeedom. Instability after instability for several months. Second crisis.
That’s where Claude comes in. My AI assistant who put up with several days of whining, absorbed my insults toward the developers of Jeedom and HA, and ended up pointing me to Gladys. So good news for your lead developer: word-of-mouth via AI apparently works.
Three days later I had rebuilt everything on Gladys, cutting out all the superfluous stuff. I totally buy into this project’s commitment to stability and simplicity. I sincerely hope this philosophy is maintained over time.
Only one thing is missing for now — maybe I missed something on the forum, but I can’t find an easy way to debug scenes. Yet that’s crucial, especially when setting them up.
Regarding debugging scenes, it’s a topic that has been brought up quite a few times here.
If I’m not mistaken, @pierre-gilles isn’t a fan of the idea of a visible debug console or logs because that pushes it into the realm of tinkering, which is not the essence of the project (actually rather the opposite).
That said, I do understand your request (which I share).
I’ve gotten into the habit, when I create a scene, of systematically adding, at every step transition, a feedback message on Telegram so that I know where it breaks if that ever happens.
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, it’s true that it would still be a nice little extra, especially for beginners. But I fully understand the policy, and I approve it 100%. That’s actually the reason I’m here.
So long live your project, and as I mentioned in my introduction, I watched your video about the future of 2026 — your GEO SEO is already good, since it was Claude who sent me to you.
And given the direction the big players in the market are taking, I think your project is going to have some success in the months to come. In any case, I’ll spread the word as much as I can.
