I’ll take this opportunity to share here a small selection of the best smart home Black Friday deals I found online. If you see other deals, feel free to share them here!
Regarding backups, even though DuckDB has significantly reduced database sizes, it remains a cost item and it’s complicated to include it in the Lite offer: each GB stored + replicated across two regions has a recurring price. Back when we used SQLite databases, I even sometimes ran at a loss on some very active accounts because of the backups alone
That said, I could add backups to the Lite plan, but with adapted limits to remain viable: for example, a reduced maximum database size, and only one backup retained (versus 9 in Gladys Plus: 1 per month over the last 6 months + the last 3 days). What do you think?
I think this could interest people who don’t want AI or similar and be a good base for everyday users (external access and a backup).
It’s an idea, up to you to decide; the backup option could also help you get Gladys Plus subscriptions from a commercial standpoint.
Yes, storage is expensive
In the end, without replication, you’d have to be pretty unlucky for your installation to fail at the same time as the server backing it up on your side, but you shouldn’t underestimate Murphy’s law
I may be wrong, but for now my feeling is that everyone who has a Gladys installation, who is satisfied with it and who wants to contribute, is perfectly happy to pay €8.33 per month (€99.99 in the annual pack) to support an open-source project and to allow me to spend more time on Gladys I can never thank enough those who contribute in this way and help the project move forward!
The conversion « Gladys » → « Gladys Plus » is pretty good.
I rather feel like I’m having trouble finding new users. Clearly, the biggest challenge today is getting Gladys discovered by more people
Gladys Plus is also, and above all for me, a support for the project. For my part I am against discount offers on a product that, for €9.99 per month (and €8.33 for those who decide to take the annual => which remunerates the project less), already offers much more than Netflix or many subscriptions.
Indeed, I agree — I saw it more from the point of view of retaining the people already on Gladys Plus, but maybe that’s not the right solution and maybe there aren’t any for this business model
