Gladys Plus evolves: new page, simplified free trial, and support

Hello everyone,

After several years of strong growth, Gladys Plus hit a plateau in 2025: growth slowed down and then almost stopped.

As you know, Gladys Plus is what allows me to finance a large part of the development of Gladys Assistant: the infrastructure, the encrypted services, the time spent on the project, and more generally the independence of Gladys.

So, I’ve taken a step back over the past few weeks to understand what was blocking progress, and I’ve invested a lot of time to get Gladys Plus back on track.

The goal is simple: to make the offer clearer, easier to try, and better explain what it actually brings.

Here are the main changes :backhand_index_pointing_down:

A New Gladys Plus Page

The Gladys Plus page has been completely overhauled:

  • the prices are now much more visible;
  • the differences between the offers are clearer;
  • the included features are better explained;
  • the page better answers frequent questions;
  • there is also a more honest comparison with Nabu Casa / Home Assistant Cloud.

The idea is not to « oversell » Gladys Plus, but to clearly explain who it is for, what it brings, and why it’s paid.

A Much Simpler Free Trial

Before, you had to enter a credit card to try Gladys Plus.

This was probably too much friction, especially for people who just want to test remote access, backups, or Plus integrations.

It is now possible to start a one-month free trial without a credit card.

The goal is to allow more people to test Gladys Plus comfortably, without commitment.

A More Readable Offer

I also reworked the presentation of the offers to better distinguish the uses:

  • a lighter offer for those who mainly want remote access;
  • a complete offer for those who want all the Gladys Plus features.

This allows for better adaptation to different uses, without forcing everyone into the same subscription.

An Email Sequence During the Trial

I set up a small email sequence to accompany people who start a trial.

The goal is not to spam, but to help test the right features at the right time:

  • activate remote access;
  • test encrypted backups;
  • discover advanced integrations;
  • understand what is kept or not at the end of the trial.

And if the person does not subscribe, a feedback email will help understand what was missing.

More Follow-Up on What Works

I will also more seriously follow the steps of the journey:

  • how many people visit the Gladys Plus page;
  • how many start a trial;
  • how many actually activate a Plus feature;
  • how many become subscribers;
  • and why some people do not continue.

The idea is to improve Gladys Plus with concrete feedback, not just by feeling.

Why I’m Doing All This

Gladys is an open-source, independent project, without advertising, without data resale, and without investors.

This is a strength, but it also means that the project must find a healthy economic model to continue moving forward.

Gladys Plus is today the heart of this model.

My goal is to reach a level of income that allows me to devote much more time to Gladys, to continue improving the product, and to grow the project sustainably.

How You Can Help

If you use Gladys Plus: thank you very much :heart:

If you have never tried it, this is probably the right time to try:

If you know someone looking for a simple, local, open-source, and privacy-respecting home automation solution, tell them about Gladys.

And above all, if you have an opinion on the new page, the offers, the free trial, or Gladys Plus in general, I’m interested in your feedback.

Thank you all for your support over all these years :folded_hands:

To give you a bit more context, here’s the evolution of Gladys Plus’s Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) over the past 5 years, quarter by quarter:

Capture d’écran 2026-05-08 à 16.31.17

Growth was good until Q1 2025, then we see stabilization, or even a slight decline at the end of 2025.

The numbers aren’t bad, and I’m already very grateful for the current support :smiley:

But to be completely transparent, for me to live off Gladys and dedicate much more time to it, we’d need to reach at least €3,000 in MRR, which is about 3.6x the current level.

Regarding the starter kits: they generate revenue, but with very little margin. Between the materials, payment card fees, and shipping costs, this isn’t what can sustainably fund the project’s development.

The goal is therefore to grow Gladys Plus, which is much more aligned with the long-term financing of Gladys Assistant.

If you have ideas, feedback, or even criticism about Gladys Plus, the new page, the free trial, or the offer in general, I’m all ears.

Thanks again for your support :folded_hands:

The page is clean… You don’t highlight the free trial at all!!!
This is a great point, especially if you can get it without a card because that’s amazing!

Salut @pierre-gilles

This little refresh will do some good for this Gladys Plus page!
I have several remarks (I’m going to be a pain again, but that’s just how it is :sweat_smile:)

Have you already been able to analyze why your MRR has decreased since 2025?
I don’t remember if you had included points about Gladys Plus in your beginning-of-the-year survey.

Gladys Plus is the subscription that finances the project and unlocks remote access, encrypted backups, and some advanced integrations.

The phrasing doesn’t necessarily make me want to take a subscription unless I absolutely want to finance the project (but that’s only visible in the 3 profiles). I would see something like:

Gladys Plus is a subscription that offers secure end-to-end remote access, accessible anywhere in the world, daily encrypted backups, and access to advanced integrations. Beyond a simple subscription, Gladys Plus allows you to finance this independent project to evolve it and meet user needs.

At the beginning, we see a price of €6.99. We click on Choose your plan and then we see €5.83 :roll_eyes:
Yes, the two offers and possibilities are much clearer, but not the prices.

You have to scroll up a bit to access Monthly and Annual and play with it to understand the prices:

There needs to be consistency in this pricing section: either we announce €6.99 at the beginning and see €6.99 when we click on the link, or we put the €5.83/month directly (as it’s from). In both cases, the Monthly and Annual menu should appear at the same time as the two offer blocks.

There’s something that bothers me about the names of the offers:

Two formulas, no surprise

I really like it!
However, I see Lite and Plus but before that, I’m told about Plus Lite and Plus, in short, I’m lost.
I don’t have the ideal names, but wouldn’t Gladys Plus and Gladys Plus Max be more consistent? (but as I write this, I find Plus Max very, very pompous :grimacing:)

All Gladys Plus Lite, including:

Compare with Home Assistant Cloud

I don’t understand the « honest », it sounds fake (because « too much » is like « not enough »), I think it’s not useful.

Gladys Plus vs Home Assistant Cloud

It’s also not necessary to say that the competitor is a super product (even if it’s true for the HA ecosystem). I didn’t know, but what does « without cherry-picking » mean? (who thinks I’m too old? :wink: )

Offer instead of Feature

Many times you talk about an indie project. I understand what it is, but for visitors who don’t know, I would be more explicit by putting « independent » in full everywhere.

That’s it, I’m done with my remarks, which I hope are constructive :grimacing:
You will still have to decide whether you tutor all visitors or whether you address them formally (but I already talked about this a long time ago in a topic :wink: ).

I also discovered via this new page that we have Mistral in AI while everywhere in Gladys and on the site it is written ChatGPT, you will perhaps have to review the name of the integration OpenAI ChatGPT to AI Assistant or something much more general. After that, you can have whatever you want behind it.

And last point, I think we will have to change a few screenshots on the homepage as they date from 2023 and some visitors might think it’s an abandoned project when it is constantly evolving.

I am aware that this is a lot, a lot of work and I thank you infinitely for everything you do for your (our :wink: ) Gladys Assistant!

To follow up on @mutmut, why not simply Gladys Plus and Gladys Max?

I see several problematic points here, for example a single URL for two services.
I can’t see people choosing either plus.gladysassistant.com or max.gladysassistant.com.
These are commercial product names that need to be consistent, especially for users.

Thanks for your transparency. But the gross amount this generates doesn’t really speak to me. I’d prefer a percentage: how many Gladys users out of the total number of running Gladys instances? 1 user out of 40, 100, or 1000 is willing to pay for additional features! That directly shows the growth potential. It’s the other 39, 99, or 999 that need to be convinced!

@Riquet0077 could this answer your question?

Excellent feedback, I’ve fixed it!

And:

Far fewer sign-ups and a bit of churn (but not more churn than usual)!

I talked about it during my 2025 year-end live review, I saw a real slowdown overall.

It’s not just Gladys, I think, but in any case, there are things to do.

Hence my 2026 communication effort, I now spend almost 50% of my time creating content on social media (YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn), and I’m in contact with influencers (YouTube/Blog) to promote Gladys!

Thanks for all the feedback, I’ll pass it on to Claude to fix, but I’m out of credits, perfect timing for a weekend break :joy:

I’ll keep « Lite » and « Plus », you’re right

That’s what an « honest » comparison is :smiley:

Yes, good point, it’s planned!

Do you have specific examples?

I agree with @mutmut. I hadn’t noticed that it was possible to switch from monthly to annual.

I would put the box with the clickable gift.
Why not put this page directly in Gladys?
How long has it been since you last visited https://gladysassistant.com?

Maybe I’m wrong, but when I click on monthly, the price per month for Gladys Plus is €9.99, whereas it’s €8.33 on an annual basis. The same goes for Lite.

This means the monthly option is more expensive than the annual one… (it should be the same price or maybe a bit cheaper). This could sway some people who would just pay a small amount each month instead of a large sum once a year, which might be forgotten to renew (personally, I’ve switched my annual Gladys subscription to a monthly one at my level).

It’s completely normal for a monthly offer to be more expensive than an annual one.
It’s marketing, but it allows the company to retain the customer for at least a year, unlike the monthly offer.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll look into it!

Great idea!

The screenshot you took seems a bit aggressive to me; we need to find the right balance in an open-source project :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: but I think you’re right on the substance. We could better showcase Gladys Plus in the different places where it adds value (AI in the chat, TTS, etc…)

Subscription software is always cheaper annually, for several reasons:

  • Cash flow boost: the entire year is collected at once, allowing for direct investment in the software’s growth (development, marketing, etc.)
  • Fewer cancellations: the user commits for a year, making them more loyal
  • Predictability: this brings more stability to the publisher, who can forecast revenue and therefore investments for the next 12 months
  • Transaction fees: 1 single payment instead of 12 payments. There are fixed fees on transactions that are amortized over a single annual payment

All these points mean that users are economically encouraged to switch to annual, hence the discount :slight_smile:
