I plugged a speaker into my PC and I would like to play pre-recorded sounds on that same PC (intermediate step before text-to-speech (TTS), which will require more skill).
I tried to play a sound but there is nothing in Gladys to do it?
We don’t have the module in Gladys for that right now, neither wired nor Bluetooth.
Honestly, I don’t know if it’s really very practical:
Wired means your mini-PC has to be located exactly where you want the sound to come out, and you need a sound system that’s always plugged in and always on.
For Bluetooth, you need a Bluetooth speaker that’s always plugged in and that doesn’t lose the connection after a certain time; I don’t even know if that exists.
Connected speakers are designed for this use: you can put one in every room where you want Gladys to be able to speak, and it works all the time.
For info, for my tests I bought a new Nest Mini in 2024 for €20 on Leboncoin:
Given the low prices I’m actually tempted to buy one, you can do some neat things with it. I do have one question though because I see in the features that you can make the speaker speak (that’s cool!), but can you do more basic things? That is to say, for example, send a sound (an alarm, for example) or music?
