Gladys 4.86: the biggest release in the project's history 🚀

Hi everyone!

Super excited to release Gladys Assistant 4.86.

It’s simple, it’s the biggest version since the start of the project, with 68 PRs merged in one week :exploding_head:

It’s just incredible, and it shows the new pace we can keep with AI.

The goal is now clear: catch up with and surpass Home Assistant :rocket:

On this goal, I am very serious. :slightly_smiling_face: I genuinely believe that Gladys’ foundations are stronger than those of Home Assistant.

Since v4, Gladys has been built on a deliberately very structured foundation: a clear API, a coherent data model, and well-defined concepts. This choice has sometimes made us progress more slowly on certain features, but it gives us an extremely robust base today.

In contrast, Home Assistant has chosen a much more flexible model. This flexibility has allowed them to build an immense ecosystem and become the reference in home automation. It was probably the right choice at the time.

But I think the arrival of AI is fundamentally changing the rules of the game. AI models are much more powerful when they interact with structured data, explicit concepts, and predictable APIs. What may have seemed like a constraint a few years ago is now a real advantage.

In other words, our technical choices are no longer a brake: they become an accelerator.

I am convinced that this approach is the right one in the long term. Now, let’s not kid ourselves: Home Assistant has several years’ head start, an immense community, and an impressive ecosystem. Surpassing them will be a considerable challenge.

But that’s exactly what makes the adventure exciting. :rocket:

Quick question: When there’s an update like this, should we consider rerunning AI on external integrations? Or only if there’s a new SDK?

Thank you all for this acceleration on Gladys :waving_hand: , it’s fantastic and I’m glad I’ve been using Gladys since the beginning of my home automation journey 5 years ago!!

I’m not a developer and therefore unable to create new external integrations.

I have some equipment that today is not compatible with Gladys, how can I make them compatible?

a vacuum cleaner (iRobot)

a RM4 mini (Broadlink)

my Ecodam heat pump (Mitsubishi)

Today I go through Melcloud ↔ node-red ↔ Gladys (reading information and controlling the setpoint and on/off)

For my solar panels (microinverter and gateway) Enphase

Today I use Home Assistant → MQTT & Node Red → Gladys (information retrieval)

Bravo and congratulations :flexed_biceps: to all the developers for this new version, which is much improved compared to the one I discovered in June 2026, just two months ago. When I chose Gladys over HA, I didn’t expect such progress in such a short time, and it’s not over with all these external integrations. So I made the RIGHT choice!! (a special thanks to @pierre-gilles who gave me good advice :slightly_smiling_face:)

Don’t hesitate to try, it’s super simple with AI. One request and it’s often functional on the first try!

I’m using Manus 1.6, which is free until August 25th, it’s the perfect opportunity!

 I followed @pierre-gilles’ video (who sometimes goes a little too fast on certain points) and once you get it, it’s actually super simple!

The Broadlink integration is functional as I have 2 RM4s on Gladys at home.
But not necessarily intuitive, I grant you.

Are you using Melcloud Classic or Melcloud Home?
Have you tried with the appropriate external integration?

For local Docker, I made a request for a specific need :slight_smile: @pierre-gilles did the development and I approved it on my end.

As for the Enphase integration, I’m going to run an AI on it, which should be quick. I’ve tinkered a lot with AI models before :slightly_smiling_face:
