External integration - Bambu Lab (3D printers)

Hi everyone!

Second stage of the « 3D printing pack » after OctoPrint: here comes Bambu Lab, the most popular 3D printers of the moment (X1, P1, A1, H2…), nearly 4% of Home Assistant installations. Everything works locally, via the printer’s MQTT, without the Bambu cloud.

What it does

  • One device per printer (up to 3): status, file, progress, remaining time, current layer, nozzle, bed, and chamber temperatures with their setpoints, speed (silent, standard, sport, extreme), chamber light, pause and resume buttons, HMS errors in plain text, and the camera image (P1 and A1 series).
  • A « Bambu 3D Printing » widget: progress, remaining time, temperatures, last image, end time, AMS spools (material, color, remaining), and buttons that adapt to the state (pause, resume, cancel with confirmation).
  • Triggers: print started, finished, failed or canceled, paused, and HMS error (filterable by severity).
  • Scene actions: pause, resume, cancel, light, and speed.

Like OctoPrint, heating is not controlled from Gladys: setpoints are read-only.

The cool part

Print finished → « done in 1h 05 » on Telegram
Smoke detected → cancel the print and cut the printer’s power
10 p.m. → « silent » speed for the night

Installation

Gladys 5.1 minimum.

It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with the address GitHub - guim31/gladys-bambulab: Bambu Lab 3D printers for Gladys Assistant: progress, temperatures, pause and camera, on the local network · GitHub

  1. On the printer, note the serial number and the LAN access code (Settings → Network).
  2. In Gladys: enter them (the IP address is optional), then add the printer in the Discovery tab.

Honest small reservations: with the 2025 firmwares, controlling the printer requires the « LAN only » mode and Developer mode (reading and lighting work without); no file sending or timelapse; the camera of the X1 and H2 is not supported yet. And I developed it without a printer: it was tested against a real MQTT broker in TLS that replays messages from a P1P, and a simulated camera. Your feedback on a real Bambu will be precious.

A Bambu at home? I’m counting on you
