Hi everyone! ![]()
A 9-hour print that finishes at 3 a.m., or one that turns into spaghetti while you’re at work… 3D printing enthusiasts know the drill
Here’s OctoPrint in Gladys, the first brick of the « 3D printing pack » offered by @pierre-gilles
Everything runs locally, via OctoPrint’s API.
What it does
One device per OctoPrint (up to 3): status, current file, progress, elapsed and remaining time, temperatures of the nozzle, bed, and chamber with their setpoints, Pause and Resume buttons, and the webcam image.
In real-time, thanks to OctoPrint’s push stream.
A 3D Printing widget: progress, remaining time, end time, temperatures, and buttons that adapt (Pause / Resume / Cancel with confirmation during a print, Preheat / Cool down when idle).
Triggers: print started, finished, failed or canceled, paused, with the file and duration as variables.
Scene actions: pause / resume / cancel, preheat (refused during a print), cut off heating.
One-click connection: button « Connect to OctoPrint », you accept the request in OctoPrint, and that’s it.
The cool part
Print finished → « benchy.gcode finished in 2 h 05 » on Telegram
The smoke detector triggers → cancel the print, cut off heating, turn off the printer’s outlet
7 a.m. on weekdays → preheat for the morning print
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum. OctoPrint 1.5 or newer.
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In a hurry? Integrations → Install from GitHub, with the address GitHub - guim31/gladys-octoprint: OctoPrint 3D printers for Gladys Assistant: progress, temperatures, pause and resume · GitHub
- Enter OctoPrint’s IP address and save.
- Click on « Connect to OctoPrint », then accept the request in OctoPrint’s interface.
- Discovery tab: add your printer.
Honest caveats: no file upload or print start (that’s OctoPrint’s job), the webcam is a capture refreshed every minute, and for safety, heating is only controlled via the widget and scenes, not like a thermostat. Use the IP address instead of octopi.local.
Tested against a real OctoPrint (1.11.8, with its virtual printer): real print, pause, resume, cancellation, print end, emergency stop. Not yet on a physical printer or in a real Gladys: your feedback is welcome!
