Hi everyone!
Another big name in balcony solar: Hoymiles microinverters (HM, HMS, and HMT series), in Gladys, by OpenDTU. OpenDTU is the open-source gateway (an ESP32 with a radio module) that many people use instead of the original DTU. Everything stays local.
What it does
- One device per inverter:
- the solar power and that of each panel, named as in OpenDTU;
- the day’s energy and total energy;
- the voltage, frequency, temperature, and efficiency;
- the power limit and on/off control.
- Gladys energy tracking: the total energy is a production index, and Gladys derives its half-hourly production for its Energy screens.
- Three scene triggers: production started, production stopped (with the day’s energy), inverter alarm. Alarms come from the inverter’s event log (grid overvoltage, overheating…).
- Two scene actions: set the power limit (in watts or as a percentage), read the production.
- A widget “Solar production”, the same as for APsystems.
The cool thing
- A full battery and no consumption → a scene lowers the inverter’s limit, then raises it when the washing machine starts.
- Nighttime is handled: power at 0, counters kept, green status.
- The limit is never permanently written: the inverter forgets it on reboot, and its memory doesn’t wear out.
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum. It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In a hurry? - Enter the IP address of your OpenDTU. Add the admin password to be able to set the limit and on/off control; without it, the integration only reads.
- Click on Test OpenDTU: it lists your inverters.
- Add them in Discovery and place the widget on a dashboard.
Honest small reservations
- Testers wanted! I don’t have an OpenDTU. The integration follows its source code, including old and new response formats.
- AhoyDTU, the other free firmware, is not yet supported: it’s on the list.
- OpenDTU doesn’t say whether an inverter is on or off. The switch therefore shows “on” as long as the inverter is producing.
- The curves on the Energy screen need to be confirmed on a real installation.
