Hi everyone!
A slightly different one in the self-hosting series, for those who have a NAS or a home server: after Sonarr & Radarr for the parents’ movies, here comes the Minecraft server for the kids ^^ Java or Bedrock, on the NAS, a Raspberry Pi, an old PC, or even on the Internet.
What it does
- One device per server, up to three: online, connected players and slots, who is playing (Java), version, message of the day, latency.
- Three triggers: « A player has joined the server », « A player has left the server » (with playtime) and « Minecraft server offline ».
- An action « Send a message in the Minecraft chat », via RCON.
- A widget: the status of each server and who is playing.
- In French, English, German, and Spanish.
The cool thing
7:30 PM → « Dinner! » in the game chat
A child connects → message to the parents
School night, 9:00 PM, someone is still playing → « 5 more minutes! », then the PC power cut at 9:05 PM
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum.
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with GitHub - guim31/gladys-minecraft: Minecraft server status and players for Gladys Assistant · GitHub
- In the server’s
server.properties, keepenable-status=true(this is the default). For the full player list and messages in the chat (Java only), enable RCON:enable-rcon=trueand a separatercon.password, then restart the server. - In Gladys: the server address as in the game, the edition (Java or Bedrock), and if needed the RCON port and password. Then Test the connection.
- Discovery tab: add the server.
Honest small reservations
- Without RCON, up to 12 names at most (randomly picked by the server), and none if the server hides the list. Bedrock only gives the number of players.
- An arrival is seen at the next read (30 seconds by default): a player who quickly passes by is not seen.
- The RCON password opens the entire server console: the integration only sends messages (
say), intentionally, but keep a dedicated password. - No automatic discovery on the network: the address must be entered. Java before 1.7 is not supported.
- Tested against a real Java vanilla 1.21.11 server (the official server), with RCON and bots that connect and disconnect: arrivals, departures, and « Dinner! » well seen in the game. Bedrock has not been tested in real life (impossible to open its port in my sandbox), nor Paper, Fabric, Forge, or proxies, nor a real Gladys installation. If you have a Bedrock server, the repository contains a small read-only test script.
Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft.
