Hi everyone!
The self-hosting series couldn’t skip Nextcloud, the personal cloud of many of you, on a NAS or a home server. After Sonarr & Radarr, which I loved doing, here’s how to monitor it from Gladys, in read-only mode.
What it does
- A Nextcloud device: online, version, update available, application updates pending, active users (5 min, 1 h, 24 h), users, files, shares, free space, database size, system load, memory, PHP version.
- Two triggers: « Nextcloud update available » and « Application updates available », once per version.
- A widget: free space, active users, and pending updates at a glance, with Refresh and Open Nextcloud buttons.
- In French, English, German, and Spanish.
The cool part
New Nextcloud version → message on the phone with the version number
Free space below 20 GB → alert before photo backups fail
Nextcloud offline for 10 minutes → message
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum.
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with GitHub - guim31/gladys-nextcloud: Nextcloud server monitoring for Gladys Assistant · GitHub
- Choose an access for Gladys, never your main password:
- a monitoring token (recommended), which only opens the monitoring API:
occ config:app:set serverinfo token --value <your-token>(the command is reminded at the bottom of Administration Settings → System); - or an admin account with an app password: Personal Settings → Security → Devices and Sessions → Create a new app password.
- a monitoring token (recommended), which only opens the monitoring API:
- In Gladys: the Nextcloud address (the one from your browser) and the token, or the account and its app password, then Test the connection.
- Discovery tab: add the device.
Honest small reservations
- Read-only, and only one Nextcloud. You need the Monitoring app (
serverinfo), enabled by default. - Read every 1 to 15 minutes; the number of files is refreshed by Nextcloud only every 3 hours. No disk temperatures or user quotas.
- After a refused access, the integration waits 30 minutes before retrying on its own, to not wake up Nextcloud’s anti-brute force protection (which can block the whole house behind a reverse proxy). Fixing the configuration or clicking Test the connection retries immediately.
- Tested against a real Nextcloud 32.0.9 set up for the occasion: token, app password, wrong credentials, non-admin account, disabled app, maintenance mode. Not tested: a real update offered (a Nextcloud installed from its sources never offers any), a real certificate, a reverse proxy, MySQL or Redis, or a real Gladys installation. Your feedback is welcome.
Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with Nextcloud.
