Hello everyone!
As announced in the feature request thread, here is NINA in Gladys: the official alerts that the German alert app NINA displays for your municipality. These are from the BBK, the Federal Office of Civil Protection. No account or key is required.
What it does
- One device per house located in Germany: the number of current alerts, the highest severity (from 0 to 4) and the title of the most severe alert. The municipality is found based on the location of the house, exactly as the official app does.
- Additional municipalities, if you want: a vacation home, the family’s city. Enter them by their name, district, or official key. A Find a Municipality button provides the exact names.
- All NINA sources:
- civil protection (MoWaS, KATWARN, BIWAPP);
- severe weather from the DWD: uncheck them if the DWD integration already gives them to you;
- floods;
- police.
- Two scene triggers:
- NINA Alert Issued: based on a chosen severity, possibly from a single source. A worsening alert restarts the scene, a simple update does not.
- NINA Alert Ended: end of alert, expired or withdrawn alert.
- A scene action « NINA Alerts »: the number, severity, titles, and a summary ready to send.
- A widget « NINA Alerts »: current alerts with their severity, source, and time. Tap one to read the official text, with the link to warnung.bund.de.
The cool thing
- A severe alert for the vacation home’s municipality → a message on the phone, even 800 km away.
- Flood alert → the basement roller shutters close and a lamp turns red.
- The end of the alert arrives → « End of alert: … » on the phone.
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum. It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In a hurry? Integrations → Install from GitHub, with the address GitHub - LM1LC3N7/gladys-nina: Gladys Assistant external integration for NINA, the German federal warning system: official civil protection, weather and flood warnings for your municipality, scene triggers and a dashboard widget. Unofficial, not affiliated with the BBK. · GitHub
- Place your house on the map (Settings → Houses), and accept location access when installing the integration.
- Open Discovery and add the device for your house. The Test NINA button tells you which municipality it was found in.
- Place the NINA Alerts widget on a dashboard.
Honest small reservations
- This is not a security system. The integration reads the alerts every 5 minutes and may delay one. Always rely on the NINA app, sirens, cellular broadcasting, and the radio.
- The texts are written in German by the authorities. The title is translated when NINA provides a translation, which is the case for most civil protection alerts. The description remains in German, unchanged: the BBK only allows the use of alerts as is.
- Tested on the real API, but today there were only civil protection alerts in progress. DWD, flood, and police alerts follow the same format on paper, to be confirmed at the next opportunity.
