Hi everyone!
A small series for those who have a NAS or a home server. I do a lot of self-hosting myself, and after Sonarr & Radarr (which I loved connecting to Gladys), it was time to take care of what’s downloading in the background: here are qBittorrent, Transmission, and Deluge in Gladys, locally.
What it does
- One device per client, up to three, in any mix (two qBittorrent and one Transmission, for example):
- the download and upload speeds;
- the torrents in progress, paused, and completed, and the list of current downloads with their percentage;
- the free space;
- an alternate speed switch (Transmission’s turtle mode);
- the connection status of the client.
- Two triggers: « Download completed » and « New torrent added », with the torrent name and a filter by category.
- Four actions: pause everything, resume everything, alternate speed limits, and add a magnet link (disabled by default, check it in the configuration).
- A « Torrents » widget: speeds, current downloads, and the buttons Pause all, Resume all, and Alternate speed.
- In French, English, German, and Spanish.
Nothing is ever deleted: neither torrent nor file.
The cool thing
A movie starts on the TV → alternate speed; it stops → back to full speed
Download completed in themoviescategory → « … is ready to watch »
Free space below 20 GB → everything paused and a message
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum.
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with GitHub - guim31/gladys-torrent: qBittorrent and Transmission torrent clients for Gladys Assistant · GitHub
- On the client side, enable remote access: the web interface for qBittorrent (Tools → Options → Web Interface) and for Deluge (
deluge-web), the remote access for Transmission. On Transmission, also add Gladys’ address to the RPC whitelist (rpc-whitelist, or theWHITELISTvariable of Docker images). - In Gladys: the software, the address (without port, the default one is taken: 8080, 9091, or 8112), the username and password of the web interface (Deluge: the password only), then Test the connection.
- Discovery tab: add your clients.
Honest small reservations
- Up to three clients, and one device per client, not per torrent.
- No alternate speed on Deluge (it doesn’t have it), and it needs its Label plugin to filter by category.
- Torrents added or completed while the integration is stopped are not announced.
- qBittorrent bans an address after a few rejected passwords: the integration spaces its attempts itself, but check yours well.
- Tested against real clients launched for the occasion: qBittorrent 4.6.3 and 5.2.4, Transmission 4.0.5 and Deluge 2.1, with a real download that properly triggered « added » then « completed ». However, it has not yet run in a real Gladys installation: the widget and the scenes are to be confirmed on your side, your feedback is welcome.
Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with qBittorrent, Transmission, or Deluge.
