Integrate the IKEA Dirigera Matter gateway into Gladys

Hello,
I bought a few new IKEA Matter devices, and I got an IKEA Dirigera gateway to integrate them into my home automation network which (almost) didn’t exist until now.

I decided to start directly with Gladys so as not to waste time starting on Home Assistant (HA) and then switching to Gladys afterwards.

I must admit I can’t accomplish much and nothing tells me what’s wrong or what I should do. I really feel it’s simple but only once you know the trick, and that as a beginner you’re groping around blindly.

Let me explain: nowhere does it tell me how I should proceed to get started.
Unless I’ve made a mistake.

Here’s what I did: on the IKEA side I installed their dedicated app and added the DIRIGERA, the sensors and switches, but on the Gladys side I find nothing except MATTER
So I started from there and tried the ADD DEVICE option which … doesn’t let me add anything.

In the Matter settings, I have my DIRIGERA (did I manage to add it? did it show up on its own? I couldn’t say)
however I don’t see any of my peripherals and I can’t add them

Unable to add this Matter device to Gladys, are you sure this device is on the same network as Gladys? Is Gladys running with network=host?

No device discovered using identifier {« shortDiscriminator »:6}! Please check that the relevant device is online.

and now I’ve been stuck for hours without making progress, I can’t find any info in Gladys or online.

any ideas ???

Hi @4get9

Thanks for testing Gladys!

To be completely transparent, the IKEA Matter range is brand new, not yet available everywhere, so you must be the first to test this in Gladys

However, if Matter lives up to its promise, it should work in the Gladys Matter integration!!

Normally, you should have a sharing code from the IKEA app that lets you « share » your Matter devices into Gladys.

You need to enter this code in the « Add a device » tab:

Then your devices will appear in the « Devices » tab in a blue section « Paired devices not added to Gladys ».

You can add them to Gladys with one click.

However, everything you describe sounds a bit like what @prohand shared here:

https://community.gladysassistant.com/t/ikea-nouvelle-gamme-matter/9810/16?u=pierre-gilles

If that’s the case, you’re experiencing the teething problems of the early IKEA Matter range…

Unable to add this Matter device to Gladys, are you sure this device is on the same network as Gladys? Is Gladys running with network=host?

For that, is everything OK on your side?

Where is Gladys running? Tell us about your setup.

So I understand better the lack of conclusive results on Google

I had seen the post that mentioned network=host, but I looked into how Gladys was launched on my Pi (I used the dedicated Gladys image) and I couldn’t find it (crontab, /etc/init.d, /etc/rc.local, systemd, …)

Well, great news if it’s just something new — I trust it and I’m open to helping

Ah! That could explain the issue; it’s an old image we no longer support.

This image doesn’t

Ok, I see — I’ll take care of that

Thanks!

So I looked into this during my lunch break:

  • I flashed a standard image onto my Pi 4
  • I configured the Pi
  • I installed Docker and then Gladys

Once connected to the Gladys interface I created my account

  • enabled Matter
  • in the IKEA Home app, I created the Matter bridge
  • in Gladys/Matter I added the identifier of the bridge provided by the IKEA app in the previous step

At this point I can see my IKEA DIRIGERA in the settings

In the Devices section, Gladys doesn’t show any Matter devices

Question: am I supposed to retrieve all the devices connected to the DIRIGERA?
Because if I have to add them manually, I get an

Thank you for your detailed message!

Could you take a screenshot of this screen?

If any nodes are displayed, could you click on « Download Matter Nodes JSON » and upload the file to https://pastebin.com/ then send us the link?

here is the screenshot :

and the Matter Node file: JSON

question in passing: are there any identifiers that need to be masked in this share?

And for info, the reboot of the DIRIGERA gateway hasn’t changed the situation

By the way, what should we call it? Bridge? Gateway?

Hello,

I’m interested in the topic, as I also have a gateway from Ikea.

Thanks!

Super interesting, only your gateway is exposed on the Matter network, but no devices.

On the Dirigera side, what does it look like? Can you share some screenshots?

There might be something to do to make your devices « open » on Matter!

No, the JSON is made to be shared

I don’t have an IKEA gateway, but when I wanted to add my Matter devices to Gladys I used device sharing (from Apple Home) rather than sharing the gateway; I don’t know if that will make any difference.

Okay, I found it:
in Home Smart (the IKEA app), you must:

  • of course add the devices
  • then click on the settings button (a key of 8… or of 10)

image

  • select Connection via QR code

and there you’ll be able to add the device in Gladys!

ok so it’s like with Apple Home and I imagine also the other systems.
And I just remembered that when testing Homey Self hosted, I did the same.

yeah these are my very first steps into slightly advanced home automation (until now I only had 2 or 3 eWeLink switches), so it’s possible that this is something basic
But, not having found the info myself after quite a bit of searching, I preferred to detail it — it will surely be useful to people afterwards

Great, thanks for sharing that!

We need to make a short tutorial in the documentation, if you can take screenshots of the different steps up to adding it to Gladys, that would be great

Did you manage it in the end?

Great idea for the tutorial, I’ll prepare that

In the end I managed to integrate the 2 temperature and humidity sensors:

So cool !

I recommend the « Devices » widget if you want to group multiple sensors:

(Yes, I’m getting up from the table, I need to air out.)
