Heating discussion

So here’s the new post about heating

I invite everyone to participate.

I will create a second message that I will edit as proposals come in so as not to lose track of the final version that will serve as the feature request.

Don’t hesitate to add your ideas to help move the topic forward

Ici la proposition rédigée et annotée

v0.01.21.25

    vacances
    boulot
    autre (individuel)
tarif EDF (white, blue, red in dynamic mode)
    EDF tariff off-peak/peak (HC/HP)

        Frost protection (Hors gel)
        Off (Arrêt)
        Forced operation (Marche forcée)
Comfort (corresponds to the automatic mode managed according to all parameters)
Manual (to match the room thermostat setting)

Manage each radiator individually. (mode toggle)
Set the comfort temperature for each room.

For information, everything described above is currently achievable in Gladys but requires a number of scenes that borders on indecency.

example of what can currently be done but requires an infinite amount of time

and, above all, a lot of complex manipulations

Among the settings to consider, I would add the current EDF tariff (Peak/Off-peak hours, Red/

updated to version v0.01.21.25 at the beginning of the thread

For the heating modes I have at home:

Off
Frost protection
Eco
Comfort -2
Comfort -1
Comfort

I have a forced run mode but not via my pilot wires, only via an IR remote (2h forced run).

For tarif edf, I’ll just put subscription because in Alsace,

Here we include everything that concerns heating, I think, in order to be as exhaustive as possible — afterwards we’ll sort it out

So for me the heat pump is included — basically everything that heats and that can be controlled

So, then, you don’t control the room temperature based on temperature sensors; you trust the radiator settings?

Hi everyone

I’m sharing a few important points to keep in mind:

1. A universal and international implementation

Gladys is a product aimed at an international audience. As mentioned in my live, one of the goals for 2025 is to attract more North American users (United States and Canada).

:backhand_index_pointing_right: The implementation should therefore be global and not focused on French-specific features. That said, heating remains a fairly universal concept.

For French-specific particularities (like EDF Tempo), we need to find an elegant solution, for example via scenes or an addons system. Personally, I think scenes are the best option in this case.

2. Ease of use

The goal is that everyone can understand and use this feature: whether it’s children, grandparents, or people not used to technology.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Let’s simplify as much as possible!

Since we’re not the first to offer this type of solution, an analysis of existing products is needed to draw inspiration from the best ideas.

I don’t know if any of you have a Nest at home, but the implementation seems particularly clear and intuitive to me:

It’s a good source of inspiration.

Who wants to take the lead on this project?

I can take care of the code part (which represents, in my opinion, only 10% of the work).

However, there is a significant amount of upfront work to be done, notably:

Investigation (research and analysis of needs + inspiration from existing systems).

Drafting technical specifications.

Creation of mockups. (Ex: whimsical)

I can help with these points, but I’d like someone to take the lead on this project.

I’m happy to continue with this so we can produce a first draft for work.

I check the room temperature but I can’t control the radiator’s setpoint, so I’m effectively trusting the radiator :frowning:

After that I could add triggers in my scenes to switch the Comfort setting (e.g.) to Comfort-1 or Comfort-2 depending on the temperature from my sensor and the setpoint.

Whimsical: it’s equivalent to draw.io for the drawing part

No one else for heating requests? Should I start from what I’ve already written??

Feel free to get started — I’d be happy for you! Just one small point to note: a specification needs to be clear and well-structured to be understandable by everyone.

I’ve noticed that your posts on the forum are often hard to follow, with quite a few mistakes and a lack of clarity. I’m telling you this openly: better organizing your posts would make discussions smoother and more pleasant for everyone.

Don’t hesitate to take your time to properly formulate your ideas. Tools like Grammarly or even ChatGPT can help you improve the readability of your posts.
