đŸŽ„ Live - 2025 review and plans for 2026 ‱ Friday, January 16 at 8 PM

Indeed, it’s the AI, but it’s only part of the suggestions.

  • Bring one or more major investors into Gladys.
  • Ask the community to fund an integration / an upgrade

  • Call on a communications company.
  •

There are advantages, disadvantages, and different costs for each solution that need to be studied to determine what might work best.

Hi everyone

New YouTube video coming out tonight: Home Assistant vs Gladys Assistant: The Honest Comparison 2026 (Which one to choose?)

In my opinion, it’s a video that’s going to do really well. I noticed that this keyword is highly searched, so it will fill a gap and answer questions from users who are hesitating between the two solutions.

In this video, I compare the two solutions across 6 criteria (installation, compatibility, automations, community
) with no sugarcoating: I say what HA does better AND what Gladys does better.

:rocket: A little favor? If you have 30 seconds, a comment under the video (even a quick comment) would greatly help the YouTube algorithm get it discovered by more people

Thanks in advance!

Very interesting as a video and very honest, knowing Home Assistant well.

Just YAML is only used when you really want to go further and BLUEPRINTS are (basically) templates of (complex

Thank you for your feedback @McFlyPartages

I agree with this point.

However, I notice a gap between theory and practice: I’m regularly told that YAML is not mandatory in Home Assistant, but in fact, virtually all video tutorials, blog posts and forum discussions refer to it

It’s understandable: bloggers generally try to offer advanced configurations, but in my opinion that can intimidate beginners who are discovering the platform

Do you think I can share this video on HACF or will it be poorly received?

I would avoid it.
But it’s a very good video.
It looks like you’ll hit the mark with the dual setup!
I don’t know if you can make changes to an already published video.
I put myself in the shoes of an English person, so I enabled automatic translation. There were a few small mistakes, like « Gladys Â» translated as "Gladi

I hadn’t seen it, but someone had just asked me a question on the HACF forum that called for this response, so I answered with the video

My review is very objective and I put Home Assistant in the spotlight for what it is, so I think it will be well received

The feedback on the video is very positive, and clearly it’s a huge hit — I’ve never seen anything like it on the channel :joy:

I’m putting my comment here because I’m not a fan of YouTube & co. (the less I write on it, the better I feel).

The video is very good, it’s very clear, no « dissing Â» of the opposing solution but a highlighting of each one’s pros and cons, great! (and it also helped me understand the philosophy of Home Assistant (HA) a little better  )

Regarding the stats, it worked well in 24 hours, especially with almost 50 comments — it’s really a great success. I don’t know if you can find out where the visitors came from but I think that would be really interesting.

And I’ll finish with the last slide about a dual install which is brilliant :star_struck:
I’m saying this because that’s what I do and I’m even on 3 installs (Gladys, Home Assistant (HA) and my old Jeedom), everything communicates over MQTT. And I even went as far as adding Homey SHS to the mix to share and test Z2M (Zigbee2MQTT) and Matter for a month (after that, Homey requires payment)!

In short, MQTT and Matter make a great duo for sharing device values.

Unfortunately we have some people who won’t accept it, too bad, but that’s how it is.

There is a new channel on YouTube that could be interesting https://www.youtube.com/@alafrench.
I’ll let you judge for yourself.

Another idea:
It would be interesting to do an apartment or house project from A to Z with Gladys on video across several episodes

  • study of the structure (house or apartment)
  • study of devices to add (sensors, switches, bulbs,
)
  • study of the person’s living habits to create the scenes
  • setting up the devices and installing Gladys
  • creation of specific scenes
  •

For that, you’d need an average person, a novice, wanting to equip their property.
Let them ask questions that the general public might have.

I didn’t use AI but it could come up with detailed scenarios for a series of videos.

Actually, I already have all the content filmed about that; it’s called the Gladys course :joy:

That’s exactly what I filmed: my personal apartment, from empty to fully connected with Gladys!

One of the ideas I had to showcase this course was to make a YouTube video where I present my entire personal setup.

That’s a very good idea!
I would envision a neutral video presenting a home automation assistant, to spark interest and show that it’s simple to make your apartment or house smart from a hardware point of view.
At the end of the video, there should be only a single pre-made dashboard showing only the products you demonstrated in the video, with Gladys of course, to show the ease of use (on/off, simple automation)
In this video, I wouldn’t yet show pairing devices or setting up scenes or commands on the dashboard (that’s more what the training will cover) but just explain that you did it in 5/10/15min.

Gladys is listed directly on Z2M, I had never noticed!

I really liked the Gladys / HA video! :+1:

Great work @pierre-gilles — I hope it brings you people.

Also, in my home automation journey I first went through HA; I was really taken by the fact that, without me asking, it suggested integrations for network devices (printer, etc
)
but in the end I dropped the tool because I understood NOTHING about YAML, and because the more I tried to move forward, the more I broke things.

Hence my interest in Gladys, which, on the other hand, doesn’t break anything as you go! :+1:

Same here, I followed the same path
I was won over by Gladys’s stability and simplicity

Hi @pierre-gilles.

When reading a comment on the video, I thought maybe you should give people the option to try Gladys+ for a month before having to pay, so new users can get a full idea of what Gladys can do.

Ongoing communication with a French YouTuber, Aylabs, who published a great video about Gladys!!

I appear in the video to answer his questions :slightly_smiling_face:

If you can take one minute to leave a short comment under his video, it would greatly help to push his content forward on YouTube!

Thanks to those who do :raising_hands:

There is already a free 2-week trial included, and I extend it if someone needs more time, but generally, in 2 weeks you already get a good idea :slightly_smiling_face:

I had certainly seen the info, but I no longer remembered it.
