Backup Size Gladys

Hello everyone,

I just noticed that my Gladys backup is growing by almost 1 MB per day since the last update, whereas before it was stagnating at 1.5 MB. I imagine this is related to the arrival of graphs and the storage of different data. So, I was wondering what the maximum size it is reasonable to let it grow to, so that I can adjust the retention period of the different data?

Thanks in advance for your feedback

To know the max, you should ask @Terdious

Hi @Mastho!!
For my part, I peak at 2GB on the Pi 4 on SSD. No issues, it’s not that imposing for a database after all. No worries on that front then. Only the free space on your SD card / your SSD matters.

Good evening

Hello @Mastho!

Indeed, nothing to worry about, a SQLite database can handle several terabytes without any issues, so a few MB is a piece of cake

Just make sure to keep an eye on your disk space on your Pi (you can see it in Gladys settings too)

And if you don’t already have an SSD (I can’t remember), it’s really a must to upgrade to an SSD!

It makes me think that the history options we offer are not very long, a larger option (1 or 2 years) might be welcome

Thanks for your feedback @Terdious and @pierre-gilles. I’ll keep an eye on that.
It’s not impossible that I might eventually migrate to an SSD!

And regarding backups, is it incremental or a full backup every time?
Because I’m still waiting for fiber at home and I wouldn’t want the backup to take more than a day

Full backup, each backup is independent (it’s the complete SQLite file) to be able to restore to a point in time.

After that, don’t worry, the backups are compressed (and encrypted), so the file on the Gladys Plus side is quite light in the end.

I checked, in your case your compressed and encrypted backups currently weigh 7MB, even on ADSL it should upload relatively quickly

Hopefully, the fiber will arrive before my backup reaches 2 GB

Or let the user choose the number of months…
