[We need you] Gladys UX improvements

Hi everyone!

I mentioned it during Friday night’s YouTube Live (at 27:17), I’m proposing to do a full « UX » pass on Gladys to further improve the user experience

Objective → Reduce the small everyday frictions that annoy users when using the product.

For example, recently someone reported that the filters on tags in scenes were lost when going back. It was a simple fix but it greatly simplified the use of scenes.

3 ways to help :

  • Find friction points and submit them on the forum. I don’t know which format would be the simplest in terms of organization? For now, wouldn’t everyone create a post in Configuration with all their feedback, then under each post we discuss it, and finally if there is consensus we create the associated requests in Demande de fonctionnalités with the tag « feature-request-ux »?
  • Join the discussions and propose solutions
  • Code the fix and open a PR on GitHub

Thanks to everyone who takes the time!

I have on my side identified 2 points that are easy to fix.
For example, make the title optional for all widgets, notably in the scene and device widgets; for my part I never or rarely add a title and having an empty bar bothers me.

The second point concerns a text correction I saw while preparing my PR for the title. I noticed that some widgets are described as boxes. So I propose correcting that.

I will create specific issues with a proposed PR.

Indeed, a long time ago I used to talk about « Box » because I found « widget » a bit old-fashioned, but ultimately « Widget » makes more sense to everyone

Hello everyone,

Thanks @pierre-gilles and all the contributors for Gladys, great work

I would have liked to contribute more actively, but I’m stuck at the step "Coding the fix

I say it often, but coding is only a small part of the work, and it’s often the easiest part of the job.

Knowing what to code, that’s much harder…

I invite you to create a specific topic if you have ideas / requests
