I’d like to better develop the Gladys community internationally, to attract more developers who could bring even more integrations to Gladys!
The missing piece for me right now to really be international is the presence on social networks, which is currently only in French, notably on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
Several options are possible to communicate in English: stop using French and speak only English, or split my communications by creating, for example, accounts « gladysassistant.en »…
For my part, I communicate entirely in English at work so switching to 100% English is not a problem for me, but I’m unsure whether it’s an issue for the French community or not…
For me, using both languages on the same account isn’t a problem but double-posting is annoying.
I’m subscribed on X to bilingual accounts that post twice (one in French, the other in Dutch) and frankly, receiving the same message twice made me disable notifications…
If I’m not mistaken, all the developers, or almost all, speak English, so if they’re the ones you’re targeting, regardless of the original language, English should be prioritized.
However, for users, it’s another matter. Since English is international, I’d put
For me, two forums (French/English) like for HA (Home Assistant), Jeedom, etc., are good
As for social networks, I’m not present on them (too time-consuming) so I won’t weigh in, but we mustn’t forget that there are many French speakers around the world who don’t necessarily speak English (or don’t want to). I think that as the project’s initiator you can make everything global (announcements, polls, etc.) in both languages, but if you switch everything exclusively to English you’ll drive away a category of people (damn, we’ll end up no longer speaking in this country!)
And if we wanted to attract the largest possible crowd, there would be Hindi, Mandarin, Russian, etc.
Each language should have its own community and keep its forum and social network alive
And what could also be interesting is to do a survey on the impact of social networks on Gladys adoption…
On Instagram and Facebook, I follow bilingual accounts that post the French or Dutch text first. And below it, in the same post, the English translation (« English Below »). Or vice versa. It works very well.
It is surely possible to make automatic and random posts on social networks via n8n or others.
There is no official French forum on HA.
The HACF community is unofficial; we created it for French speakers after asking HA to make a FR forum section in the official forum, which they had refused.
