Upcoming installation

Back

I’ve finally got a machine to install Gladys on

However it’s bare and a bit old — which version of Linux would you recommend installing on it if I only want to put that on for now?

If your machine is a bit old, it’s better to use Ubuntu 18.04; see if you can test Ubuntu 22.04.

Give your machine’s specs, it can help… « old » isn’t a criterion — it might have been top of the line 10 years ago and still be usable, or it might have been crap 10 years ago and still be now… Also, if you don’t put Microsoft on it, it could work

So I installed Ubuntu 22 on it, it seems to work — it’s an i5 2400 with 4 GB of RAM and a 250 GB hard drive

but now I have a problem: I wanted to do a minimal Ubuntu installation and when I ran the command to install Gladys with curl it replies « no curl »

I run an apt-get or install of curl and it doesn’t know it

so I don’t know what to do — reinstall full Ubuntu or not, or did I miss something in what needs to be done

Your config is more than sufficient.
Did you put sudo in front of your commands (administrator mode)?

Yes, I ran sudo apt install curl but it can’t find curl among the packages to install.

Did you run this command?
sudo apt install curl

Otherwise, if you don’t need to use your PC as a desktop you can install OMV (which is an open-source NAS system) and then Gladys, I made a tutorial

If your installation is brand-new, a sudo apt update may be necessary (to download the list of available packages)

Hi, I’m back — everything’s working today

I found the blocking points so I’m sharing them; the docs should be updated for the following

so indeed a sudo snap update or apt-get update is necessary

then the next blockage is Docker: it needs to be added to the group for it to work. Fortunately a friend more knowledgeable than me ran the command

and finally, to launch Gladys in the browser you should add that the address on the host PC is localhost — it’s obvious, but if you don’t know it

so today I’m trying to get

So to find it on the phone it’s OK after a bit of time due to 2 blunders
the first: forgetting to turn on the Wi‑Fi on the phone (no laughing )

the second: my dyslexia, I typed the wrong IP at least 30 times

I’m moving on to the temperature sensor data to get a table !!

Well, I can’t figure out how to do this simply at my level

I saw that there was a database (DB) but I don’t know how to use it properly

Do you want to extract the data from the Gladys database?
If it’s to make a chart, there’s a built-in feature directly in Gladys…

hello yes I saw the chart setup but I would like to be able to manipulate the data myself to cross-reference them with data that are outside Gladys

so a CSV export like date, temperature or another data would be sufficient; I find that a button for that is missing

@Prof_Techno Don’t hesitate to create a feature request if it’s something you’d like to see in Gladys: Demande de fonctionnalités - Gladys Assistant community

We prioritize based on votes afterward

It seems like a good deal to me, even though I don’t know the brand, it’s often cheap Chinese stuff (like Beelink) but it holds up!!

If it’s just for Gladys, you’re good.

Hi @Prof_Techno I contacted you by email about a new starter kit for Gladys, I think you’ll be interested

Okay, I’m getting back to my setup — because of your personal issues I had to take a break.

In the meantime I switched to a proper mini PC and sensors are slowly starting to be put back on it.

Have a good day
