External integration - Airthings

Hi everyone!

Radon is invisible and odorless, and in Brittany or the Massif Central, it often finds its way into the basement. Airthings sensors measure it very well, along with CO₂ and particles: here they are in Gladys, so the VMC can react on its own rather than discovering the figure in the app three weeks later.

What it does

  • One device per sensor (Wave, Wave Plus, Wave Mini, Wave Radon, View Plus, View Pollution, Space…).
  • Measurements: radon (short term, and long term when the API provides it), CO₂, VOCs, PM1, PM2.5, PM10, temperature, humidity, pressure, battery.
  • The age of the measurement, to spot a sensor that is no longer reporting anything.
  • A « Air Quality » widget:
    • all rooms at a glance, or a single sensor with its radon curve for the week;
    • radon in color: green below 100 Bq/m³ (WHO threshold), red from 300 Bq/m³ (French reference, adjustable).
  • A Test Connection button.
  • A reading every 5 minutes, well below the API quota.
  • In French, English, German, and Spanish.

No specific trigger: Gladys thresholds on device states already do all the work.

The cool part

Radon in the basement above 300 → message, and the VMC outlet turns on
CO₂ in the bedroom above 1000 with someone at home → « Open the window »
Measurement age above 180 minutes → « Check the hub or the batteries »

Installation

:warning: Gladys 5.1 minimum.

It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. In the meantime: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with https://github.com/guim31/gladys-airthings

  1. Create a free API client on the Airthings API dashboard, with your Airthings account.
  2. In Gladys: paste the client ID and secret, then Test Connection.
  3. Discovery tab: add your sensors.

Honest small reservations

  • Cloud only: no local Bluetooth reading. Waves go through a hub, a View Plus, or the phone app.
  • The values date back to the last sensor update, which can be several minutes for a Wave.
  • Gladys has no « radon » or « PM1 » category: radon appears as a counter in Bq/m³, and PM1 next to PM2.5, under its own name.
  • Mold and virus indices are not read.
  • Developed without a sensor. I have since checked at home that the real Airthings API properly rejects fake keys, but no real account has gone through yet: the measurement types by model and the exact time of the readings remain to be confirmed. If you have an Airthings, your feedback is welcome.

Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with Airthings.
