Hi everyone!
A smoke detector, you press its button once a year and hope never to hear it. Except if it rings while you’re at work, it rings for the cat. The X-Sense, very widespread and inexpensive, have a base station and an app: here they are in Gladys, so that the alarm gets out of the house.
What it does
- One device per detector (smoke, CO, heat, combined smoke + CO, water leak):
- the current alarm;
- the battery, online or not, the radio or Wi-Fi signal;
- the result and date of the last self-test.
- One device per base station SBS50 or SBS10: online and Wi-Fi signal.
- Alarms arrive in real-time, in a few seconds.
- Four triggers, with the detector name and the room: « Fire alarm (smoke or heat) », « CO alarm » (with the ppm rate), « Water leak » and « Low battery » (once per episode, not every five minutes).
- A « X-Sense detectors » widget: alarms first, then low batteries and offline devices.
- Targeted hardware: SBS50 and SBS10 stations with their radio detectors (XS01-M, XS0B-MR, XC01-M, XP0A-MR, XH02-M, SWS51), and the Wi-Fi detectors XS01-WX, XC04-WX and SC07-WX.
- In French, English, German and Spanish.
Read-only, on purpose: you cannot disable or test an alarm from Gladys. Disabling a siren remotely is exactly what we don’t want to happen by mistake. And on a combined detector, an unknown alarm code triggers both alarms: better one too many CO alerts than a missed fire.
The nice thing
Fire alarm at night → all lights on, the shutters of the exit path open, and a message to the whole family with the room
CO alarm → the boiler outlet switched off, the VMC started, and a message with the ppm rate
Water leak → the inlet valve closed and a notification with the room
Installation
Gladys 5.1 minimum.
It will arrive in the store at the next indexer run. Meanwhile: Integrations → Install from GitHub, with https://github.com/guim31/gladys-xsense
- I recommend a second X-Sense account, which you share the home from your main account: a single account cannot stay connected to the app and to Gladys at the same time, each disconnects the other.
- In Gladys: the email and password of this account, then Test the connection.
- Discovery tab: add the station and the detectors.
Honest small reservations
- Gladys does not replace sirens: it’s an additional relay, not a fire safety system.
- Everything goes through the X-Sense cloud, with an unofficial API: a few seconds delay, and nothing without Internet.
- The CO rate is displayed in the widget and arrives in the trigger, but it’s not a feature of the device: Gladys only knows « CO detected, yes or no ». Similarly, a heat detector appears as a smoke detector, lack of a « heat » category (it’s a fire alarm in both cases).
- A refused password is never retried alone, to avoid locking the account: it must be corrected in the configuration.
- Developed without a detector. I verified from my place that the real X-Sense connection recognizes the app and properly refuses a fake account. But the real-time alarms, self-tests and details of the states have never been seen on real hardware: if you are equipped, a press on the test button with Gladys open would help me a lot.
Like the previous ones, developed with Claude Code. Independent project, not affiliated with X-Sense.
